First dibs on Xiaomi’s Mi 3

The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - Globe Telecom is the first Philippine telco to partner with Chinese mobile technology company Xiaomi, with the Mi 3 handset now available with a Globe prepaid bundle and, soon, its suite of customizable postpaid plans.

Customers purchasing Mi 3 via www.mi.com/ph will get a free Globe Prepaid SIM and free 50MB of mobile data valid for 30 days. To avail of the free mobile data, customers can text FREE1MPS99 to 8888 after SIM activation.

The partnership and innovative offers are on the heels of the telco’s more pervasive 3G and 4G HSPA+ networks nationwide, allowing customers to enjoy the features of the Mi 3 smartphone for a richer and more seamless mobile-browsing experience.

“We are privileged to have been chosen as Xiaomi’s first telco partner in the Philippines to offer the Mi 3 to Filipino customers alongside our prepaid bundles. The Mi 3 will be a great addition to our device portfolio with its astounding features and superb quality. With its affordability, we, together with our Xiaomi partners, can definitely boost smartphone penetration in the country by giving more Filipinos access to more affordable devices that cater to their digital lifestyles,” says Daniel Horan, senior advisor for consumer business at Globe.

Steve Vickers, general manager at Xiaomi Southeast Asia shares, “Our partnership with Globe will definitely help us grow our distribution footprint in Asia and make Mi 3 easily accessible to more Filipino users. This is part of our ongoing commitment to providing a world-class experience to all Mi fans in the Philippines.”

Launched in 2010, Xiaomi gained steady following in Asia for its business model focusing on e-commerce. Xiaomi recently announced first half year sales of 26.1 million phones, with a revenue of 33 billion RMB. This is 271 percent growth on phone sold, and 149 percent growth on revenue compare to first half of 2013. In the last year the company has expanded its business from China to nearby markets such as Taiwan, Malaysia, Hong Kong, Singapore, and recently, the Philippines.

Mi 3 boasts of a 5-inch full HD IPS display, 2.3GHz quad-core CPU, 13 megapixel rear camera with dual LED flash, and 16GB internal storage. Xiaomi has seven service centers across the Philippines, 53 convenient drop-off locations, and dedicated customer support hotline.
