James not ready to join the ‘marry-go-round’

FUNFARE - Ricky Lo - The Philippine Star

Some people felt bitin (not totally satisfied) with James Yap’s interview aired on Startalk last Saturday, so I am printing the full transcription of our one-on-one conducted an hour before James faced the movie press to talk about his new endorsement, #LevelYap with Grips Hair Wax, the product that helped make him well-groomed that night. (To know more about the product, visit facebook.com/gripsbrand.)

In the free-wheeling interview, James talked about almost everything…his ex-wife Kris Aquino, his girlfriend Michela Cazzola, his son Bimby, and the rumors swirling over him and Michela (about a “secret” proposal and their wedding plan).

You are welcome to eavesdrop.

Kris thanked you in her Instagram for the caviar cake that you gave her last Christmas.

“I ordered it from a friend who gave one for me as a gift. I tasted it and I liked it, so I decided to give Kris. I also gave one to Ate Ballsy.”

What did Kris give you in return?

“It was okay that she thanked me. Okey na sa akin ‘yon.”

Do you and Kris have a regular communication?

“Yes, we have but it’s always about Bimby. At least okey naman ngayon dahil smooth naman ‘yung takbo ng ano namin…pag-uusap namin. Wala namang magulo.”

By the way, did you see Bimby’s movie with Vice Ganda, The Amazing Praybeyt Benjamin?

“Yes.”

Nakakatuwa ‘yung eksenang nagbading-bading siya, ano?

“Hahahaha!”

How did you find it?

“Well, syempre, eh…wala, eh. It’s a movie so…well, nagulat. Bago ilabas ‘yung movie sinabi sa akin baka magalit ka pag makita mo ito. Okey naman.”

Kris got angry at a basher who called Bimby bayot (Visayan for effeminate) on the Instagram.

“That’s what you get when you join showbiz. Of course, you can’t stop some people doing that. Syempre nirerespeto natin kasi hindi naman tayo pare-parehong iniisip. Well, Bimby is with me every week at wala naman akong nakikita sa kanyang ganoon.”

Were you not offended, or affected?

“Why should I be? I know what my son is. Wala ‘yon. Comment-comment lang ‘yon, kaya lang hindi maganda.”

You are supportive kay Bimby in his showbiz career, right? He has a solo movie for the 2015 Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF)?

“Talaga? I didn’t know. But yes, I support Bimby in whatever he wants to do, whether showbiz or basketball. It’s not good to force a child to do what he doesn’t want to do.”

How often do you see Bimby?

“Sometimes, twice a week.”

How does he call Michela?

“Tita Mic. They are okay. Mic is nice with kids kaya nagkakasundo sila. Once when Bimby was with us, Mic told him that she knew that his favorite is pasta. Mic asked Bimby what kind of pasta he wanted and Mic cooked it for him. Magaling si Mic sa mga bata.”

Do you spend time also with Joshua?

“Yes, nakakasama ko rin si Josh.”

Kris said in an interview that, maybe in the meantime, she doesn’t need a boyfriend and she’s happy being mom to Joshua and Bimby. You are happy with Michela. Don’t you wish that Kris also finds happiness with another man?

“Well, syempre hindi naman habang buhay ganoon, di ba? You also need a partner. What’s important is you are happy.  Happy siya. So sana tuluy-tuloy lang.”

Everybody is getting married. How soon will you and Michela join the “marry-go-round”? (He’s turning 33 on Feb. 13, a day before Kris turns 45.)

“Hahahaha! Huwag muna. Mauna muna sila. ‘Yung pagpapakasal, andyan lang ‘yan. There’s a time for that.”

Haven’t you ever talked about it?

“Magle-level up muna kami, hahahaha!”

At what level do you intend to bring Michela?

“Sa tuktok. Kelangan level na level Yap si Mic.”

There’s a rumor that you have secretly proposed to Michela.

“Not true, not true!”

If ever, what kind of wedding do you want?

“A simple one.”

How do you spend your time with Bimby?

“I play basketball with him. He loves basketball. One time, I was surprised when he asked for a ball. His yaya told me na naiinggit daw si Bimby sa mga schoolmates niya. So I gave him a ball and a court. His mom didn’t know and she found out only when she went home na nandoon na ‘yung basketball court.”

Do you think Bimby will inherit your basketball skills?

“May potential siya. When we play and he wants to stop na, I tell him to make two perfect shots muna at nagagawa naman niya, one try each time.”
