Cebu hosts CloudFone Batang PBA Visayas Finals
CEBU, Philippines - Cebu will host the Visayas regional finals of the CloudFone Batang PBA 2016 with Cebu champion University of the Visayas facing off against Bacolod champion West Negros College and Iloilo champion Sta. Clarita International School.
Games will be played this weekend at the Magis Eagles Arena of Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu in Canduman, Mandaue City.
The regional finals is a single round-robin affair with the top ranked team qualifying for the national finals which will be held in Manila from May 28 to June 4. UV is looking for a fourth straight trip to the national finals after representing the Visayas in 2012, 2013 and 20114, but both champions from Bacolod and Iloilo are hungry to dethrone Cebu from its four-peat dreams.
Sta. Clarita Coach Butch Guzman says that their team is ready for the regionals after having gone through tough teams like St. Roberts and Huasiong in the Iloilo leg. West Negros College Coach Arvin Gustilo also chimed in that they’re going all out for the first win of a Bacolod team in the Batang PBA series.
Both teams are arriving this weekend. A coaches meeting will be held Saturday morning with the first game to be played Saturday afternoon. The next two games will be played on Sunday.
This is just one of four different regional finals which will be played over the weekend. The other regional games are being held in Metro Manila, Northern Luzon, Southern Luzon, and Mindanao. The top two teams form Metro Manila and the top team from all the other regions will then qualify for the national finals. (FREEMAN)
