2017 yearend report: President Duterte's achievements

WHAT MATTERS MOST - Atty. Josephus B. Jimenez - The Freeman

We are not making "sipsip" to this administration. We could never be an apologist or a propagandist of this government. That is the job of Mocha Uson and Secretary Martin Andanar as well as future senatoriable Harry Roque. To begin with, President Duterte did much better than his immediate predecessor, in his first year. President Duterte was "pitmalu" to his enemies, especially the drug syndicates, and became "lodi" to his die-hard supporters. And that by itself is good news, not fake news.

The first good news in 2017 (based on the reports of BizNews Asia) is that on Oct. 17, 2017 the Philippine Stock Exchange registered an all-time high rating of 8,586. Second, the crime rate has been reported to decreased by 38 percent in the last 12 months. That was a huge achievement. Third, and I am really amazed that President Duterte is the most effective tax collector, he made PAL pay no less than P6 billion, the Mile Long P1.7 billion and Mighty cigarettes a whopping P25 billion. What Presidents Marcos, Cory, FVR, GMA, Erap, and PNoy failed or neglected to do he achieved by just delivering three speeches.

Fourth, President Duterte extended the effectivity of Philippine passports to ten years, and the drivers' license to five years. Fifth, under President Duterte's leadership, there is no more "tanim bala" in the airports. Sixth, because of the president's concrete and positive initiatives, the morale among armed forces and police personnel has reached unprecedented high levels never before achieved. Seventh, the president has caused many positive innovations in our care of and protection for OFWs, like the one-stop shop in the POEA, the removal of processing fees for travel tax exemption. Eighth, over the objections poised by SSS bureaucrats, President Duterte went ahead and increased the SSS pension by P2,000.

Ninth, President Duterte caused the closures of all online gambling operations. It was reported by BizNews Asia that under GMA 4,000 such operations were supposedly approved and 8,000 were allegedly allowed by PNoy. President Duterte stopped them all. He is not afraid to do what is right.

Tenth, he also ordered the demolition of fish pens in Manila Bay and Laguna Lake. Those were allegedly owned by powerful ex-military generals and formerly untouchable sacred cows. Eleventh, free tuition for all in state universities and colleges. Twelfth, rice subsidy on top of Pantawid cash grant. Thirteenth, awarding of land certificates to the Hacienda Luisita farmers. Fourteenth, free irrigation to all rice farmers. Fifteenth, more protection for patients in hospital admissions.

Lastly, the successful ASEAN Summit. These are the good news.
