Last Friday I was supposed to do my first long big bike ride (since my kidney transplant operation eleven months ago) to Bacolod when I realized I okayed this road trip while I was still in Europe, but as it turned out, Friday was the 100th anniversary of the Fatima apparitions and I really wanted to join the grand procession on Friday evening. So I begged off this road trip and since it was raining, I called myself lucky that I didn't go.

So we were able to join the procession last Friday evening with my wife and daughter, together with architect Tessie Javier and Douglas Gacasan of Task Force for Family & Life and as we reached Colon St. the slight drizzle became a big rain. But rather than be annoyed by the rain, I thanked God for blessing the procession participants and our beloved Cebu.

We walked from the Cebu Provincial Capitol grounds all the way to the front of the grand procession at the flyover near Metrobank building and easily the crowd that Friday evening would have reached more than one hundred thousand, including those who stayed on the roadside. This was the biggest procession since that other big one during the 51st International Eucharistic Congress. Yes we were drenched by the rain (despite having a jacket and umbrella) but it was truly worth celebrating the 100th anniversary of Fatima, which most Catholics know so much about.

No, I couldn't stay for the Holy Mass celebrated by Cebu Archbishop Jose Palma, as I'm not allowed to risk contacting a pneumonia infection because of the cold. But yes, the procession was a personal sacrifice for me, as I have not walked that far since my operation. But while my legs hurt, I offered this pain to the Lord. There is no doubt; we Cebuanos are a Marian people, we love the Theotokos, Mother of our Lord Jesus Christ.

As I already said, the big news last Friday that was headlined by all mainstream newspapers and TV networks was the impeachment of Commission on Elections Chairman Andres Bautista. When I met Deputy Speaker Rep. Gwen Garcia during her birthday dinner last Thursday, I told her that my faith in the Legislative Branch had been restored. I was totally disappointed in the 26 congressmen belonging to the House Committee on Justice for rejecting the impeachment complaint against Bautista on the flimsiest excuse and thank God, Congress during the Plenary Session impeached the erring Comelec Chairman.

While Bautista has not yet resigned, it is now up to the Senate to start their investigation and trial of the impeached Comelec Chairman. The big news in Tuburan, where the Regional Trial Court in Toledo City ruled that Daphne Lagon is the rightful winner of the 2016 mayoralty race in that northern town against sitting Mayor Democrito Diamante, is proof that the 2016 presidential elections wasn't exactly conducted in a fair and honest manner. When they did a manual recount, 11 precincts in Tuburan showed that Lagon who was the candidate of the One Cebu Party had won over Diamante of the Liberal Party.

During the impeachment trial of Bautista, I dare him to answer why many LP candidates won over their opponents. This is why I question even the victory of Governor Hilario Davide III because the LPs were "favored" by Baustista. For instance, how could Mar Roxas end up second to Pres. Duterte coming from being last place? Ezzz a puzzlement!
