Professor Paciente S. Villa, the Dean of Professors of Cebu Journalism and Literature

Professor Paciente Villa was born on September 11, 1889 and studied at the Colegio de San Carlos (now a university) and at the Escuela de Derecho for Bachelor of Law. He taught Spanish at the Cebu Junior College (now UP Cebu Campus). He was editor of the La Revolucion (of Don Filemon Sotto) and the El Precursor.

Professor Paciente was the child of Teresio Villa and Florencia Suico. He had many siblings: Alfonso, who married Concepcion Duterte (connected with the Dutertes of the University of Southern Philippines); Dr. Leonardo, the founder of the then Immaculate Concepcion Hospital, he married Rosita Cala Veloso of Baybay, Leyte (the Velosos of Leyte are closely related to the Velosos of Cebu); Natividad who married lawyer Brunito L. Albino of Dumanjug, Cebu; Dr. Mariano; Engr. Juan, who married Rosario Buza; Filomena, who became a Nun, Engr. Lamberto; Paulita, a nun who died in Spain; Bertier; Dr. Inez, the Premio Zobel Awardee of 1932 who married Antonio Gonzales; Gregoria, who married Edrolfo Casals; and Maria, a doctor of philosophy who married a Francisco. A member of the Villa Clan by the name of Filomena Villa-Polvorosa (named after the nun-sister of Professor Paciente) became Comptroller of the University of Southern Philippines (now USPF).

The husband of Prof. Paciente's sister Natividad, Brunito L. Albino, belonged to a lawyer clan of Dumanjug. Brunito became a lawyer on February 4, 1952. The other members of the clan were Florencio L. Albino (admitted to the Bar on March 24, 1947), Lucilo J. Albino (admitted to the Bar on January 26, 1961) and Pedro L. Albino who became a lawyer on December 2, 1941, the latter was the lawyer of the Cuencos especially in election cases. A member of the Albino Clan also served as Mayor of Dumanjug, his name was Domingo Albino.

The mother of Professor Paciente belonged to the Suico Clan, though was a resident of Parian, the clan has its roots in Mandaue. The mother of the Grand Old of Man, Don Sergio Osmeña Sr., was a Suico by the name of Juana who was the child of Paula Suico. Cebu's Little Governor, Don Jose Avila who was Secretary to Governors Osmeña, Jakosalem and Roa also married a Suico by the name of Adela Suico. The Avila/Suico couple produced the following children: Soledad, Mercedes, Remedios, Benjamin, Rosario, and Jesus.

Professor Paciente S. Villa died on April 5, 1974, his penname was Paul Virgilio. The Dean of Professors of Cebu Journalism and Literature was also a public servant. Aside from serving Cebu City as councilor after the war he also served as Provincial Board member of the Province of Agusan.
