Brave from a safe distance

The recent incident where President Duterte traded barbs with Jose Maria Sison reminds me of an anecdote in Aesop’s Book of Fables about a fox on a rooftop that challenged a lion below calling the lion names and uttering derogatory remarks against the lion. To this the lion retorted saying that it’s so easy to be brave from a safe distance.

I wonder if Sison could be that brave if he were here in the Philippines. But based in a faraway country and living in affluence perhaps supported by money from the revolutionary tax his people collected from the businessmen and poor peasants in the countryside, it’s so understandable that he possesses such bravado.

Regarding Marcos MR dismissal

Despite the legal setbacks before the SC, the fight against the Marcos restoration continues. We are set to commemorate the 45th anniversary of Martial Law this year. The anniversary becomes even more meaningful given the attempts of the Marcoses to return to the highest position of the land.

What is important now is the struggle to uphold the judgment of history. The education campaign on Martial Law and the Marcos dictatorship continues. Calls to hold the Marcoses accountable continue. The younger generation must know the truth about the Marcos dictatorship.
