Ayuda na lang ng PSC ang hinihintay

MANILA, Philippines -  Hinihintay na lamang ng Philippine Athletics Track and Field Association (PATAFA) ang suportang pinansiyal mula sa Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) upang matuloy ang training camp ng ilang miyembro ng national team sa Australia.

Ayon kay PATAFA sec­­­retary-general Reynato Unso, nakatakdang lumi­pad patungong Perth ang 12 Pinoy tracksters bi­l­ang paghahanda sa 29th Southeast Asian Games na idaraos sa Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia sa Agosto.

Umaasa ang PATAFA na mailabas agad ng PSC ang pondo upang masimulan na ang paghahanda sa SEA Games.

“We never had problems with the PSC regar­ding the budget. So, we’re hoping that it is released in time while the competition season in Australia is still on,” ani Unso.

Sakaling hindi matuloy ang Australia trip, posibleng sa China na lamang mag­sanay ang pambansang koponan.

Naniniwala si PATAFA chief Philip Ella Juico na malaki ang maitutulong ng overseas training upang higit na mapalakas ang tsansa ng Pilipinas na humakot ng gintong medalya sa Malaysia Games.

Noong 2015 edisyon sa Singapore, ang athletics ang may pinakamaraming gintong nakamit tangan ang limang ginto, pitong pilak at siyam na tanso.

Inaasahang mangu­nguna sa kampanya ng Pinoy squad sina reigning SEA Games champions Eric Shauwn Cray (100m at 400m hurdles), Caleb Stuart (hammer throw), Kayla Richardson (100m) at Christopher Ulboc (3000m steeplechase).

Malaki rin ang tsansa nina Ernest John Obiena (pole vault), Marestella Torres (long jump), Harry Diones (triple jump), Trentan Beram (400m), Mervin Guarte (800m), Patrick Unso (low hurdles), Mary Joy Tabal (marathon) at ang men’s 4x400m team.
