Where were the fireworks?

THE EAR - The Freeman

Giant christmas tree. For several years, it has been a normal practice in Cebu City to light up a giant Christmas tree in the Fuente Osmeña rotunda as December opens. It was no different this year. Last December 1, Cebu City officials, along with representatives from the private sector that financed its erection, led the ceremonial lighting of the 125-foot Christmas tree.

No fireworks. But a photographer, who had covered the same event in the past years, could not help but wonder why there was no fireworks display this year. This photographer positioned herself in a strategic area on Osmeña Boulevard minutes before the tree would be lit up in an effort to capture the grand moment. To her dismay, no fireworks accompanied the lighting. "Sayang kay nanghuwam pa gyud raba ko og tripod," she said.
