Father, into thy hands...

PERSPECTIVE - Cherry Piquero Ballescas - The Freeman

Into thy hands, O Lord, we commit, we commend our people, our nation. By May 9, like Your Son, Jesus Christ, we can all say, "it is finished."

We do not know the future, dear God. But we are assured that in our future, as in our past and as in our present, You will continue to be always with us. Your will be done. Amen.

The campaign period has been one spiritual journey for our nation. It brought out the best as well as the worst in our people. The campaign also brought division among our people. From Monday, dear God, may You gift us with unity to work as a whole nation to serve You and our people, Lord. May Your love spread to the hearts of each and every Filipino wherever they are. May the sacrifice of Your Son, our Savior guide us all back together to You. May Your will always be done, our dear Father. Amen.

Your Son's last words on the cross come to mind on the eve of the May 9th election, Lord. For all the excesses and bad manifested during this period, we cry like Your Son, Jesus Christ did, "Father, forgive them, forgive us, for they, for we do not know what they/we do."

We pray that our voters will follow Your will because You are the Way, the Truth, and the Life. We earnestly pray that Your Holy Spirit will touch our voters so that the election results will reflect Your will which is best for us and one that will lead us to appreciate Your Son's words, "Truly, I say to you, today you will be with me in paradise."

Into Your hands, dear God, we commit, we commend our people. May our people remain faithful and loyal to you and to our Mother, Mama Mary. May our people remember in their hearts how You honored Mother Mary and how You treasured the bond between child and mother as expressed in the words of Your Son, "Woman, behold your son. Son, behold your mother."

The angry, loud crowd was given the choice whom to release: Your Son or Barabbas. The mob chose Barabbas and rejected Your Son who was made to carry the cross and was crucified. We clearly understand and feel Your Son's anguish when He was rejected over Barabbas, when He was crucified instead of glorified. We deeply feel how Your Son felt when He cried out, "My God, My God, why have you forsaken me?"

"I thirst." On the cross, Your Son longed for love, for real justice, for the goodness left in people, for gratitude from a people You loved and You continue to love. May our people realize that You gave us all our free will to love You as much as You love us. Your Son's outstretched arms on the Cross and His death showed us the depth of Your love for us. Your Son thirsted for love, for respect, for gratitude from us all. Instead, Your Son was disrespected, stabbed in His side, His clothes even taken away from Him.

The saddest part, Lord God, is that those whom You loved and cared for so much, those to whom You even sacrificed Your Son for, the people, the mob, the crowd whom You loved so much and whom You wanted to save, rejected You, Lord.

May our people, who had just gone through the Holy Week last March, reflect and truly remember Your love for them by choosing Your path, by choosing Your way. May our people not reject You and truly see You as their real Redeemer, their Savior , and their one true God.

By Monday, like Your Son, our people will say, "It is finished." But as You gloriously showed the world, Your Son's resurrection triumphed over the cross, life triumphed over death. May Monday proclaim Your victory triumphantly, our dear God!

Forever, our dear God, our Father, just as Your Son prayed, "into your hands I commit my spirit," we also pray and lift to you fervently our prayer, "Father, into Your hands, we commit, we commend our people, our nation. Amen."

May we all continue to thank you and praise You always, our dear Father as we lift joyfully to You our earnest prayer that Your Son taught us, "Our Father, who art in heaven, holy be Your name, Your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Amen."

All will be well, no need to fear, no need to worry, for You are in control and will come out triumphant, our dear God the Father, for You, our God, You are always good, all the time! Thank you, Lord! Praise and glory be with you always, our dear God. Amen!
