Poll heist all ready

TO THE QUICK - Jerry Tundag - The Freeman

Mar Roxas overtaking Grace Poe to emerge second to Rodrigo Duterte in the presidential surveys? Leni Robredo leapfrogging over Chiz Escudero and even Bongbong Marcos to now lead the vice presidential surveys? What have Roxas and Robredo done so significantly to cause such a dramatic shakeup in the survey makeup? What errors have Poe and Bongbong done that they should be overtaken in such astounding fashion?

If it was nothing that Roxas and Robredo did, or Poe and Marcos failed to do, that caused the incredible overhaul in the standings, was there something that happened in the country? Was there an event, an occurrence so overwhelming as to change the course of what appeared to be this country's incipient destiny? If the inevitable answer to all of these perplexing questions is no, then what you have just experienced is the miracle of money working to reshape destiny.

The administration has money flowing out of its ears, money meant to be dispensed liberally at the last minute of the campaign with an intensity of purpose the likes of which have never been seen before. The spending spree is meant to secure the outcome of the election, using every means necessary, every method fair and foul. For the very tomorrow of the administration is at stake.

This administration has committed many serious sins it wants to cover up with the only means possible - its own perpetuation or the ascendancy of a friendly replacement. The need to cover up these sins cannot be compromised. Or else all the fallacies of "daang matuwid" will be revealed - from the heist that was the PDAF and DAP, to the hijacking of the Corona trial, to the coopting of constitutional bodies, to the truth about Yolanda funds, to what really happened during Mamasapano.

There are big grievous sins committed by this administration that just cannot be revealed or its house of cards will collapse. That is why there is great panic in a Duterte presidency, not because the guy talks tough, but because the guy is different, unpredictable. Most politicians do not keep their promises. But Duterte is unpredictable. He just might. That makes him scary as shit.

Bongbong is another thing altogether. The administration is scared of Bongbong but has not been forthright about the real reason. The administration is trying to revive the martial law bogey and finds it convenient to use Bongbong for the purpose. But what truly scares the administration is that it knows Bongbong will not toy again with martial law. Not ever. It knows it would be suicide, personally and politically, for Bongbong if he does that.

What scares the administration so much is the knowledge that Bongbong will not tinker with martial law ever again. When Bongbong does that, there goes the only wind that has ever filled the sails of this administration. This administration sucks on the martial law bogey for its main sustenance. Without the martial law bogey, it has absolutely nothing underneath its feet to stand on.

Improvements to the economy that it boasts about were all achievable under a different administration. There was nothing this administration contributed to it in the form of right policies and sound fundamentals. Confidence in a corrupt-free administration? That is only the administration praising itself. The truth is, this administration is just as corrupt or even more so as any.

No administration will be leaving as indelible a mark as this one in the way it has corrupted institutions just to please the whim of its hapless leader. Who has broken up Cabinet positions to accommodate drinking buddies? Who has threatened the Supreme Court to protect the theft of people's money? Who has openly bribed senators to ensure the ouster of a sitting chief justice as revenge for the breakup of a family hacienda?

If Nero fiddled while Rome burned, Noynoy enjoyed inspecting new cars as the caskets of the SAF 44 came home. And this is the administration that seeks to perpetuate itself?

If this administration can have the audacity to do everything that it did, it is peanuts to do everything it is doing now. Everything is in place to make believable the incredible. The administration's progeny are now in position to take over.

A vice presidential candidate spending all his time attacking a presidential candidate is a dead give-away of the administration script, which is to prime the public consciousness to the big surprise when Roxas eventually takes the cake, with Leni right behind with the drinks. The greatest electoral heist in Philippine history is about to take place and Filipinos are being told to their faces it is in the name of honesty and decency. Wow. What hypocrisy.
