Let God!

PERSPECTIVE - Cherry Piquero Ballescas - The Freeman

Who do you think should win in the May 9 elections? We certainly pray all our voters will allow God, our real God, to come out victorious.

"Stop fighting," he says, "and know that I am God, supreme among the nations, supreme over the world. The Lord Almighty is with us, the God of Jacob is our refuge." (Psalm 46:10-11, Good News Bible).

Yes, let us be still, let go, and let God.

Let us set aside all our fears, let us remember and claim God's words.

"Do not be afraid; for God has come only to test you and to put the fear of him upon you so that you do not sin." (Exodus 20:20, NRSV). Do not fear them, for it is the Lord your God who fights for you." (Deuteronomy 3:22).

Jesus, our real Savior, "woke up and rebuked the wind, and said to the sea, "Peace! Be still!" Then the wind ceased, and there was a dead calm. He said to them, "Why are you afraid? Have you still no faith?" (Mark 4:39-40).

And so, let us be still and allow God to unfold His plans for our people and our nation. "For surely I know the plans I have for you, says the Lord, plans for your welfare and not for harm, to give you a future with hope."(Jeremiah 29:11).

"Happy are those who make the Lord their trust, who do not turn to the proud, (to idols) or join those who worship false gods." (Psalm 40:4).

Let us be still and silent and let God.

"For God alone my soul waits in silence; from him comes my salvation. He alone is my rock and my salvation, my fortress; I shall never be shaken." (Psalm 62-1).

And this prayer.

"Come dear Holy Spirit, fill the hearts of your faithful and kindle in us the fire of your love. Send forth your Spirit, and we shall be created. And You shall renew the face of the earth. Let us pray. O, God, who by the light of the Holy Spirit, did instruct the hearts of the faithful, grant that by the same Holy Spirit we may be truly wise and ever enjoy His consolations. Through Christ Our Lord. Amen."

Our real God promised: "If my people will humble themselves and pray and search for me and turn from their wicked ways, I will hear them from heaven and forgive their sins and heal their land." (2 Chronicles 7:14)

We are reminded: "God has overlooked the times of human ignorance, now he commands all people everywhere to repent." (Acts 17:30).

"As they began to sing and praise, the Lord set ambushes against the men…who were invading Judah, and they were defeated. (2 Chronicles 20:22).

And God promised Abraham, "I will surely bless you and through your offspring all nations on earth will be blessed, because you have obeyed me." (Genesis 22:17-18).

In full faith and in prayer, let us continue to allow God to lead us now and beyond elections, as He has faithfully led us before.

"Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. " (Proverbs 3:5) "The Lord will fight for you, and you have only to be silent." (Exodus 14:14).

And we pray the prayer Jesus Himself taught us:

"Our Father in heaven, holy be your name. Your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth, as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. Amen!"
