The answer of last night's prayer

HAVE BAT WILL STRIKE - Juanito V. Jabat   - The Freeman

I was thinking of what to fill this blank piece of paper with when my cellphone sounded. And the message said....

* * *

"Today is the answer to your prayer last night...That you wake up this morning from a good night' sleep alive and well...Today is another chance given you to say 'thank you Lord for this new day."

* * *

Actually, I need not be reminded of my obligation to the Good Lord on waking up in the morning. But thanks anyway to the texter for the reminder. I once heard someone say that forgetfulness is part of human existence.

* * *

Speaking of prayers, I always remember what my good friend Atty. Dodong Baduel scribbled on a prayer book he gave me one Christmas past: "Without prayers, where will we be?"

* * *

And then I also recalled what I read about an athiest who had no God to call when he got a tootache.

Papa Mayweather says his son's coming fight with Manny Pacquiao will be a walk in the park. Pray the part ain't got no potholes, Papa. Sonny might run into one, trip and stumble.

It say here that the Bureau of Customs has destroyed P50 million worth of smuggled shoes and slippers. Did you know that thousands of our impoverished schoolchildren in our mountain villages do not know how to wear slippers, let alone shoes?

* * *

One report I heard on tv said the schoolchildren "wear" the slippers on their hands to make sure they don't get dirtied. As for shoes, what shoes?"

My friend Sonny Sanchez, who has four children living in different states in the US of A said they (his children) have been asking him to "live a good life" in America.

* * *

One of his sons (he has two in the US) texted him: "Ngari na Pa oi samtang wa pa mo diha mahisakop sa Moros." Sonny who had been living in the States for a year returned home despite his "easy life" in the States where one of his two sons live said he always longed for the sound of the cockpit in Pagsabungan.

OVERHEARD. Everyone, well, almost everyone, wants PNoy to resign. The placards said "PNoy resign," "Noynoy step down na." But some istambays watching the demos argued: "Kun moresayn si PNoy kinsa man mobanus?" The istambays were not unanimous in their choices. Said one of them: "Basin pa lang ang mobanus di kamao motadlas sa matuwid na daan unya mangahug ta sa imbornal."
