NTC calls again for Aquino to quit

SHOOTING STRAIGHT - Bobit S. Avila - The Freeman

For our special presentation on our Talkshow in Straight from the Sky, we bring you a friend of mine, whom I first met last June in Stamford, Connecticut when we stayed there with our cousin. Our guest is Mr. Romy Encarnacion who wrote the book, “Learning to Reinvent Ourselves: How to make the Philippines a Winner in the 21st Century.”Romy had this book published in 2010 and when he learned that I was in Stamford, he asked my cousin to meet up with me. Then he gave me a copy of his book over a cup of coffee.

Apparently I learned that Romy (who worked with Colgate-Palmolive) read at least 50 columnists from the Philippines via the Internet. So when we met, he already knew me from my writings. So when he was planning to visit Cebu, Romy emailed me ahead. So I asked him to be a guest on my show. With Romy Encarnacion, we literally have an Overseas Foreign Worker who doesn’t belong to the household or restaurant industry, but at the top of the corporate world. Romy wrote that book in the hope that it could trigger a change for a better country. He’s here during our most trying times.

So watch this very interesting, and perhaps highly-intellectual discussion on whether we can reinvent the Philippines, with RomyEncarnacion in SkyCable’s channel 61 at 8:00PM with replays on Wednesday and Saturday. We also have replays in MyTV’s channel 30 at 7:00AM and 9:00PM on Wednesday and Friday.

Last Saturday, we met with Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte together with many businessmen in Cebu at the Cebu Country Club. It is obvious to me that Duterte was in Cebu to “test the waters.” He is supported by my friends, former DOTC Sec. Pantaleon Alvarez who recognized me as the one who helped him remove the ANCAR permit when Pres. Gloria Macapagal Arroyo took over the reins of government from the deposed Pres. Erap Estrada. Yes, he is in favor of a Federal State for the Philippines and therefore we share the same vision, except that he really did not explain what type of Federalism that he wanted to introduce to the country. This will be all for now.

In the past four days, I have been deluged by a ton of angry emails and text messages from friends and strangers alike who have read my columns in The Freeman and The Philippine Star. I have never experienced this huge number of angry messages, which I have to answer every single one of them. But because there is so many, I have decided not to print them in this corner, which I usually do.

Most of these emails are very long, and from people who supported Pres. PNoy Aquino expressing their sadness albeit dissatisfaction about the incident that led to the death of 44 SAF men. But the angry chorus pointed to the fact that Pres. PNoy didnot have the time to meet the dead that he supposedly sent to battle. I have heard about a brewing coup that would remove him out of Malacañang, while those who are apprehensive expressed their thoughts that while they agree with a coup, they are worried that the reins of government would fall into the hands of Vice-Pres. JejomarBinay whom no one likes him to be the President.

But I got a text from Archbishop Ramon Arguelles of Lipa who sent me this message from the National Transformation Council, which I found quite touching as he was clearly addressing this to Pres. PNoy Aquino. So I’m reprinting it here for you to read:

”How can you lead us much less comfort or console us when you are buried in the quagmire that is our self? How can you listen to our cries when you are deafened by the wailings of your own fears and unforgiveness? How can you weep when your eyes mirror your hardened heart and tears can no longer fall from them?

How can you pray when your soul bows to relativistic gods? How can you pursue peace when your path is hounded by your past that keeps pulling you back and pulling you down to dwell only in the comforts of your ego? How can you stand tall when you have limited your myopic view to selfish gains?

Cry, my fellow countrymen, for our fallen brothers. But cry more for ourselves if we are not moved to right the wrong and bring justice not only for our soldiers but for every Filipino unjustly served. Only then can true peace and progress can be achieved. Let’s united and rebuild this Blessed land. Turn to God who will not fail his faithful ones. Remember, Cory had 22 dead farmers at Mendiola. PNoy had 44 dead policemen in Maguindanao.” The National Transformation Council last September called for the resignation of the entire Aquino government for corruption. Last week it reiterated that call for the sake of the country and the Filipino people.
