LANTERNs.  A retired officer of the US Marine Corps has a project back home patterned after the Filipino Christmas tradition of hanging Christmas lanterns or parol during the Yuletide season.

 COLOR. The US Marine officer who has lived in Manila since his retirement 10 years ago told an Ear informer the lanterns that hung from the window of every house in Sampaloc where he lives "add more color and joy to the Christmas celebration."
