HAVE BAT WILL STRIKE - Juanito V. Jabat   - The Freeman

Winning against the European powerhouses in basketball is a tall order for us short Pinoys. That's reality, not just punning.

Twenty-two students in Valenzuela City have filed charges against their teacher for allegedly sexually harassing them. The students just wanted to teach the teacher a lesson.

PNoy is retaining the PNP chief despite the rise in criminality involving scalawag cops. "Certain politicians are angry," said one broadcaster. Angry at PNoy? No, not at PNoy but at their not being President.

"PNoy hits GMA anew"--Headline. One isn't supposed to hit an opponent when he or she is down. Isn't that the age-old universal sportsmanship rule? "It is," says a PNoy rah-rah guy, "but PNoy is a politician, not a sportsman."

Another headline says: "Noy calls for sacrifice." No need to call. Sacrifice has already become the Pinoy's way of life since the politicians came to dominate.

It says here that more than 200 "legitimate wives" in India have signed a petition addressed to their lawmakers to pass a law "limiting to only six hours" the household work of "documented wives" with compensation for every extra hour of work. Maasin City is vying for the title "No Smoking Capital of the Philippines." This I learned from a PNA story carried by the "East Visayas Mail" of Ormoc City. The anti-smoking drive in Maasin is so intense that mere possession of a cigarette lighter is banned, the PNA said. And cigarette ads and promos are no-no in the city.

OVERHEARD. Many are talking about the kickback charges against Vice President Jojo Binay. Some of the loudest talks are in the barbershops where many self-proclaimed political analysts hang out. This comment was heard: "Luoy man ta kang Binay pero nag-una-una man gud siya'g balandra sa iyang kandidatura pagka-presidente." Comment: "Bitaw. Nakalugar maayo ang kontra sa panghipus og mga baho niya." Comment: "Unsay baho? Wa kang kamatikod anang Binay nga pirmeng mamulbos di lang aron maputi-puti gamay kun di mohumot sad?"
