Frowning guards

THE EAR - The Freeman

SECURITY. A Cebuano balikbayan who has worked as security guard in New York, USA, said the guards in our shopping malls here have "long faces"--meaning frowning faces. " I have been to several malls here and have faced many security guards but no one gave me a smile," he said.

SMILE. In the States where this balikbayan worked as security guard he was made to attend a seminar where "rookie guards" were told not to frown but to smile when talking to customers in the case of mall guards. "Bug-aton man ko og dagway pero mapugos ko og smile oy," he said. "To keep my job."
