MANILA, Philippines — If you were invited to the Star Magic Ball, what would you wear?

Celebrity fashion designers Rajo Laurel and Amina Aranaz-Alunan recently gave tips on how you can find the perfect attire to standout in any occasion  without breaking the bank.

1. Buy versatile pieces.

According to Rajo, he is not a mom but he came from a family with a long line of strong women. He learned from these women a valuable lesson: go for flexible day-to-night pieces that you can wear from work to your date with your husband or loved one.

2. Buy something that fits your shape.

Before buying something, Amina advised to make sure it flatters you and your shape so it would last in your closet longer.

3. Buy something that you really like.

“Make sure that you really, really like what you’re going to buy so that when stick your hand into your closet, you would wear whatever it is that you would pull out. It saves you time and effort in making decisions,” Amina explained.

4. Love your own.

Rajo thinks it would be nice if indigenous fabrics like abel or hablon could be worn as everyday pieces because even him only wears a barong once a year. He has observed that kids, too, also wear their traditional costumes during Buwan ng Wika.

“We should cultivate a culture for wearing our fabrics,” he advocated.

5. Follow care instructions.

Clothes, for some people, are not just everyday necessities but are also investments especially if they buy clothes for power dressing or making business.

To make your investments last longer, Rajo advised following the care instructions found in one’s clothes.

He recalled having a cashmere cardigan that shrunk because it was not washed properly.

“My passion for clothes extends to how I take care of them. You can actually take care of delicate fabrics and designer clothes without dry cleaning or hand washing. All you need is the right washing machine,” Laurel assured.

According to him, the new Electrolux Ultimate Care Washing Machine could give dry cleaners a run for their money as it can reportedly wash even fabrics as delicate as piña and wool, which is why it has been allegedly approved by the Woolmark Company, the global authority on wool.

The new machines come with innovations that prevent fading of colors, shrinkage and misshaping. These include Ultra Mix technology wherein detergent and water are pre-mixed in a special chamber before the beginning of the cycle to maximize cleaning power at a lower temperature. It allegedly delivers deeper clean and 31 percent better color care so clothes could look newer for longer. Likewise, the machines boast of Vapour Action, designed to soften fabric while reducing allergens by up to 99.9 percent, while the Eco Inverter technology offers high energy efficiency and performance with minimal vibration. It reportedly reduces energy consumption by 75 percent and save time by 44 percent.

When it comes to fashion, Amina shared that she loves intricate details and things that have a handmade quality, so she wants to make sure that she has a washing machine that can handle these delicate fabrics. She also mentioned how her kids have a knack for wearing the same clothes over and over again.

“Even if I shop for them, they have their favorites. So if our washing machine can preserve clothes and preserve the colors, then that would be such a bonus!” she noted.

With these tips in mind, Rajo and Amina assure that it is possible for anyone to become the belle of the ball.
