You glow, girl!

STYLE S.O.S. - The Philippine Star

Dear Rissa,

I love the glowing look highlighters give. But what’s the difference when using a liquid or powder highlighter?

Jamie

I love highlighters too! When the face is too matte, it looks cakey and too made-up. Highlighters lend the skin a dewy, glowing look that makes skin more fresh and natural. Liquid highlighters are amazing for achieving a natural, dewy finish. Just dab it on, then pat and blend with the warmth of your fingers to get a radiance emanating from the high points of the face, like the cheekbones, brow bones, nose bridge, Cupid’s bow.  I also love how versatile it is—just mix it in your fave foundation so you get an overall ethereal glow. The downside to using a liquid highlighter is it can be too much for oily skin and begin to feel greasy as the day goes on. But for dry skin, liquid highlighters are best.

Powders are more potent for me. Shimmer is more concentrated and if you have a heavy hand, you might overdo it. Powder highlighters are better for oily skin but will betray dry skin as they settle into lines and wrinkles. I really like the convenience, though—nothing will spill and you can apply it even in a moving car. I love using powder highlighters on my collar bones and shoulders. Doing this makes the shoulder area look bonier and slimmer, and it gives an overall glow, too!
