Iñigo Garcia & Angela Angeles: They can’t help falling in love

Newlyweds In?igo and Angela Garcia. The bride wears a gown by Boom Sasson.

It took a decade of friendship for Angela Rodriguez Angeles and Iñigo Manalansan Garcia to finally tie the knot. They started out as friends, since Iñigo would hang out with Angela’s older sister Geline and brother-in-law Paolo Bugayong. At times they would go out, enjoying each other’s company on a purely friendly basis.

When they first met, Angela had just graduated with a degree in architecture, and won a one-year scholarship to the prestigious Gemological Institute of America in London. When she returned in 2011, they dated for two years, eventually breaking up; yet they kept in touch from time to time.

Angela became well known for creating beautiful bijoux that has been in demand by brides and women of all ages. She was also busy as a budding entrepreneur with an Internet gaming shop franchise and building homes, while Iñigo has been with Trinity Insurance, a family-owned insurance brokerage company.

Last year, with the wholehearted encouragement of the Angeles family, the couple started seeing each again because Iñigo knew that he could not let Angela out of his life again and was serious about settling down.

Soon after, Angela got the surprise of her life when she opened her front door and saw Iñigo carrying three dozen red roses as he knelt and presented her with a sparkling diamond ring.

“I want to spend the rest of my life with you,” Iñigo said to his lady love. All the while the smiling Angela was unsure whether this statement was a proposal or not, since she had not yet heard him ask the crucial question, “Will you marry me?” Giggling and weak-kneed, she hastily replied, “Of course! Yes!” to the relief of her soon-to-be-groom.

Their recent wedding at the newly built St. Michael the Archangel Parish in Bonifacio Global City officiated by Bishop Paul Martires was a bittersweet moment because family and close friends knew that Ting Angeles, the bride’s father who passed away a few years ago, would have wholeheartedly approved of the marriage since he had always liked Iñigo.

At the reception held at New World Hotel’s Grand Ballroom, the newlyweds started the festivities immediately with a group dance that included the whole wedding entourage. However, for the first official dance, the couple chose a classic song that my generation remembers very well — Can’t Help Falling in Love — because the lyrics tell of a love that has lasted and grown deeper through time.

As Angela enthused, “Iñigo stands out because he’s a traditional man with strong values and good habits.”

The newlyweds are currently honeymooning in Europe where they will take a cruise to the Scandinavian countries.
