Alab bows to Hong Kong rivals
MANILA, Philippines - Alab Pilipinas took another beating, this time to Eastern Hong Kong, 83-61, in the Asean Basketball League before a disappointed local crowd at the Sta. Rosa Complex in Sta. Rosa, Laguna Sunday night.
It was the Filipinos’ second defeat in three days to the Long Lions, who routed the former, 100-87, last Friday at the Southorn Stadium in Wan Chai, Hong Kong.
Eastern Hong Kong thus stretched its impressive win run to 10 while clinching the top seeding and the homecourt advantage for the rest of the playoff round starting with the best-of-three semifinals.
Alab, in contrast, absorbed its fifth defeat in the last six and slid to third with a 9-9 record.
With a 12-6 card, Singapore is a cinch to clinch No. 2 while the Saigon Heat are currently at No. 4 with a 6-10 slate. – Joey Villar
