Filipina plus-size model walks the runway at Australia's fashion show
MANILA, Philippines — Filipina model Kat Gumabao just made a huge statement about empowering women of all sizes.
The 28-year-old model/makeup artist recently walked at the Melbourne Fashion Week Plus, the Australian city’s first-ever plus-size fashion show for women with sizes ranging from 14 to 26.
According to reports, Kat stumbled upon the casting call for the fashion show on Instagram. Fortunately, she was allowed to audition despite not being from Australia.
Kat shared her incredible runway experience on Instagram by sharing series of photos.
In an interview with ABS-CBN, Kat emphasized how the Philippines would be welcoming plus-size women in the runway.
“We are not as bold, not as diverse and not as open as to how Melbourne, UK and US are… They have women sizes 16 to 22 on covers of their magazines. I don’t know when the Philippines will start being open to that kind of change. I hope soon," she said.
