Get your eyebrows on point

CLARITY - The Philippine Star

Never underestimate the power of eyebrows. They have the power to completely change the way you look because they are responsible for framing your entire face, and, let’s be honest, everyone can appreciate eyebrows that are on point.

Here are a few things to keep in mind when grooming, shaping, and filling in your eyebrows that will completely up your brow game.

Tame those brows. Before doing anything, you have to brush your eyebrows. This allows you to see their natural shape and work from there.  Using a spoolie brow groomer, brush from the roots towards the direction of growth. If you have beautiful, full eyebrows, please, for the sake of everyone who doesn’t: embrace them!

Create the shape. Consider the natural shape of your eyebrows, because that’s usually what complements your face the best. If you do want to reshape, consider your facial structure. For example, if you have a long face, having straight eyebrows will make your face appear shorter. If you have a round face, high, arched eyebrows will make your face appear longer. Make sure to stay away from round brows because they will make your face appear even more round.

For square faces, you can have high, arched eyebrows, but if you want to soften your look, curve your eyebrows. For heart faces, go for rounder eyebrows — your eyebrows will create the top of the heart, which will flatter your face. For those with diamond faces, rounded brows will soften your look and the proportions of your face will look less wide. For people with oval faces, what will look best are soft, angled brows, which go up straight, slightly curve around the top, and then go down. Brows completely change your look, so make sure you know what kind will suit you.

Measure your brows. Measuring eyebrows sounds pretty funny, but this is a good technique to know where your brows should start, where your arch should be, and where your brows should end. Using an eye brush, or anything with a straight handle, place it along the bridge of your nose so it rests on top of your nostril and points up. There is where your brows should start. To find where your arch should be, take the brush and place it on the outer edge of your nostril, angling it along the outer edge of your pupil. Then, finally, to know where your brows should end, place the brush at the base of your nostril and angle it to the outer corner of your eye.

Fill them in. Now that you have your shape, it’s time to fill in your eyebrows. Use a product that is a touch lighter than your eyebrow color as this will give a more natural look. Depending on what product you use, you can change your look completely. If you want a softer look, use either an eyebrow pencil or an angled brush with powder. If you are using pencil, get one that has a fine tip so you can draw in “hairs” that mimic your real hair. Using an angled brush will be a bit heavier compared to pencil, but if you want to create a softer look, use the spoolie brush to blend after filling in.

If eyes are the window to the soul, eyebrows are the frames, so always make sure to keep them on fleek.
