Thai celebrity makeup artist Nongchat holds intensive workshop in Manila

STYLE S.O.S. - The Philippine Star

Dear Rissa,

Where can I go to learn to apply makeup? I am not talking about department store makeup counters.  Is there a professional makeup artist who conducts hands-on classes? I’ve been applying makeup on myself for 10 years now, but I don’t think I’ve truly developed the correct technique. I hope you can help me.

JUSTINE

Most women are confused and intimidated by makeup. When I first started modeling almost 15 years ago, I hardly wore any makeup. The only thing I knew how to do was curl my lashes, put on face powder, and apply lip gloss. I did not even own a single makeup brush then! But I’m the type who likes to experiment. Over the years, I’ve had my share of disasters and discoveries with makeup and beauty products. Point is, you shouldn’t be afraid to try something new — you might like it! Remember, makeup isn’t like a bad haircut. You don’t have to live with it. You can always wash it off. And when you’ve washed off those mistakes, you equally arm yourself with a new lesson learned. Nothing can be more empowering than experience.

After modeling for so many years, I’ve also been very lucky to work with some of the best makeup artists in our country. With their help and by just observing their makeup and how they applied it during photo shoots and fashion shows, I’ve learned a lot of simple tips that work for real life. Learning from makeup artists has been the best way to level up my makeup skills.

I’m quite excited that Thai celebrity makeup artist Nongchat will be flying to Manila to give a one-day workshop. One of the youngest makeup artists in his country, Nongchat has carved a name for himself with his signature eye makeup looks. Check out his Instagram account @nongchat! He is particularly loved and known for his simple, fresh, and blooming looks which he is able to create for his internationally acclaimed celebrity clients, making him one of the most-sought-after artists in South East Asia. His client spans from global blogger and influencer Pearypie to Thai personality Araya Alberta Hargate to Thai actresses and celebrities.

Powered by Nippon Esthetic Philippines, one of the leading sources for makeup and beauty tools, and Bohktoh Philippines, the makeup industry’s go-to for false lashes, this one-day intensive makeup workshop taught by Thai celebrity artist Nongchat will be on July 9, Saturday, 9 a.m.-5 p.m. at Soma, Green Sun Hotel, Pasong Tamo extension, Makati. Registration is open at www.nipponesthetic.com.

The workshop will focus on bridal and glamorous eye makeup — the two most difficult looks to pull off. What I like about this workshop is that it is open not just to aspiring makeup artists, but even to regular women who want to learn to properly apply makeup on themselves. The workshop starts with a demonstration, followed by hands-on training, either on a model or you can apply the makeup on yourself. The goal is to deconstruct eye makeup — including understanding how to do brows and lashes — simplifying it so you can replicate it yourself. It’s perfect for women because you’ll be able to do your own makeup like a pro every time you need to attend weddings, events, or parties.

It makes a big difference to learn from an expert like Nongchat because the workshop will devote time to actually applying makeup on yourself to suit your own facial features. You’ll be asked to bring your personal makeup and tools so Nongchat can do a proper one-on-one with each participant. This will help you edit and streamline your makeup kit, too!

From Thin To Thick Eyebrows

Dear Lucy,

I have very sparse, almost bare eyebrows so I have to draw mine every day. Aside from eyebrow tattoo, which they say will pose a problem if you decide to have a facelift, how do I get nice, thick eyebrows that don’t take so much time to do every morning.

Chelle

Practice makes perfect. The only way to draw your eyebrows on fast and well is if you learn how. Go to a professional. Then get the right product/s and tool/s.

I have a friend who was born with almost invisible eyebrows and each day, she just fills them in with pencil. She does it quickly and perfectly each time and says time taught her. Like you, getting a permanent tattoo just isn’t an option.
