Hair can do it! Bertram K shows off hairdressing skills live in Manila

MANILA, Philippines — The much-awaited live performance of Viennese hairdresser Bertram K was one that definitely did not disappoint.

European hairstylist to the likes of Nadja Auermann, Kate Moss, and Alec Wek, he has been in the industry for several years now doing fashion shows and working with various media. His life consists of constant travel all around the world, expressing his passion for all things hair—from foundation, to discipline, innovation, and creativity.

For him, having a special connection with his clients is something of great importance since hairdressing is something that he believes goes beyond just cutting and styling a new look for clients. 

The highlight of the night was the live hairstyling performed by Bertram K himself, which is something that he hasn't been done in the last five years.

During the show, Bertram K teased that back in the day, his reassurance if what was being presented was good or liked by the audience was through the crowd’s applause as verification. Nowadays he mentioned, clapping has been replaced with the number of cellphones or devices you see being raised up by members of the audience as they fire away with all forms of documentation such as photographs and videos. Unlike traditional fashion shows, this one revolved around all things hair—and Bertram K was able to keep everyone in the audience on their toes with his live hair cutting and styling of several girls with diverse initial hairstyles.

From long hair, to a bob cut, straight bangs, and pixie, he was able to transform each hairstyle into one that even without drastic change in the shape, the look became chic. For him, what he does revolves around traditional simple looks while continuing to innovate and curate special ways of establishing what the client needs.

The SM Aura Samsung Hall was filled with the metro’s A-list hairdressers, stylists and colorists who were exposed to a new unique philosophy that Bertram K was able to show them all about. — Alixandra Caole Vila
