Do you like turning rings on your fingers?

Twenty-five years ago, Piaget created a ring with two rotating bands for women to play with. This year they’ve expanded the collection, which includes one with 322 diamonds.

It’s the opposite of what we were taught when we were given our first piece of jewelry from our moms or bought it ourselves: Never play with your ring especially if it’s encrusted with diamonds.

Except that in 1990, Piaget, the luxury watch company founded in 1874 in a small Swiss village called La Côte-aux-Fées, created a ring that was exactly for a woman to play with. It was a ring that broke jewelry codes because it featured a second rotating band with which to play.

Because, how many times do you find yourself absently turning a ring on your finger? Well, Possession was made for that.

On its 25th anniversary this year, the signature collection Possession has been expanded — now made of pink gold and set with diamonds, it takes the role of an “exclusive intimate companion.”

Actress Jessica Chastain, international ambassador for the Maison Piaget, has said of the ring, “I love the Possession ring. In Manila recently, Eduardo Tartalo, Piaget managing director  for Southeast Asia and Australia, explains that Possession “represents an endless source of pleasure for all women who follow their own set of rules. It becomes an addictive habit because touching your ring gives you a chance to touch base with yourself and enjoy a ritual break, whether conscious or unconscious. No matter what the movement, just a few millimetres or a complete turn, the ring exudes positive energy.”

Tartalo, who expanded Piaget in Spain and Portugal before moving to Singapore, looks forward to broadening the market in Asia. He is responsible for Piaget’s growth in Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, Vietnam, Cambodia, Thailand, the Philippines, and Australia.

The stars of this new collection are two rings “developed to the beat of a cosmopolitan agenda — that of a contemporary woman rushing from one board meeting and gala dinner to the next, and flying across the globe.”

One ring pairs pink gold and brilliant-cut diamonds, another is adorned with a row of diamonds. There is also the original ring with a central diamond.

The Possession rings double up the ritual with two independent rotating bands seen as “the precious partner of a woman who takes a resolutely hedonistic attitude to life.”
