How to do the purrfect cat eye

STYLE S.O.S. - The Philippine Star

HI, REGINA!

I really like cat eyeliner but mine never seems to be straight, and is always smudged. What am I doing wrong?

CARLA

It depends on what you’re using to do your cat eye. If you’re using a liquid liner, odds are good that you’ll get a line that is sharper and more crisp, although liquid tends to have a sheen to it. If you’re using a pencil, the color is really rich, but it has a tendency to smudge a little (which is not too bad, actually, if you want a soft smoky eye). Regardless of which formula you use, something you can do is to clean it up with a Q-Tip. Sometimes, I overdraw my wing, or one side is significantly thicker than the other. When that happens, I put a little eye makeup remover on a Q-Tip, then use that to clean up my line. I use the other end (the dry end) to mop up any residue because that will definitely cause smudging and then I use an angled eyeliner brush to press black eyeshadow into the line to further define and set it.

If it’s your lids that are the problem, you might benefit from using an eyelid primer. It’ll help your eye makeup last longer.

Lucy’s weight secret

DEAR LUCY,

I notice you always write about food, but you seem not to gain an ounce of weight. I have always wondered how you do it. Do you have a physical regimen?

CARMELA

Yes, one of life’s greatest pleasures is the enjoyment of a good meal and that said, I do eat everything I want — but in moderation. I do not indulge every day and even at times when I am tempted to, I remind myself that tomorrow will come, I do not have to eat everything today. Also, I take the healthy stuff first like fresh fruit and vegetable juice in the morning, so that I am more mindful of what else I eat after. The worst thing you can do is starve yourself and then binge. Moderation, as with many other things, is key. I also try to squeeze in some activity I love at least three times a week, either dancing or swimming. It gives a lot of happiness!

Filipino designer clothes at myth

DEAR RISSA,

I am from Dubai and I follow you on Instagram and Twitter. I see your photos wearing clothes by designers Randy Ortiz and Pablo Cabahug. They are gorgeous! I will be going to the Philippines for Christmas. Do they have a store where I can buy some of their clothes? Would love to own some pieces by them.

MONA

I adore Randy Ortiz and Pablo Cabahug! Their creations always make me feel so beautiful and their pieces surpass time and trends. I’ve worn many of my dresses by them over and over throughout the years, and they never feel outdated. I get so much fashion mileage from their creations. When I look at my closet, my go-to pieces are by them.

You can find their creations at Myth Lifestyle in Greenbelt 5, Makati, a boutique which is known for housing ready-to-wear creations by veteran and celebrated Filipino designers. Apart from my favorites Randy Ortiz and Pablo Cabahug, you can also find pieces by Chris Diaz, Joel Escober, Noel Crisostomo, Edwin Ao. What I love about Myth boutique is how it makes Filipino designer clothes available to the public. A lot of balikbayans flock to Myth because it allows them to bring home a piece of Filipino design and, most of all, celebrate Pinoy pride.
