Kapamilya love reaches Marawi & Albay

The network spreads Kapamilya love through its emergency humanitarian assistance program

From Marawi to Albay, the love of Kapamilyas from all over the world is present and felt through the Operation Sagip of ABS-CBN Lingkod Kapamilya Foundation, Inc. (ALKFI).

As rehabilitation efforts begin in the war-torn city in Mindanao, the humanitarian arm of the country’s leading media and entertainment company has also come to bring aid to Filipino families affected by the activities of the Mayon volcano. As of Feb. 7, a total of 14,827 Kapamilyas were served by Operation Sagip’s mobile kitchen in different evacuation centers in Albay, while approximately 1,827 families received relief packs that help ease their hunger while they are still unable to return to their homes.

Aside from food rations and medical assistance, fun and educational activities like storytelling, art projects and games are also being done to help children in evacuation areas deal with the trauma of fleeing their homes due to the threat of a volcanic eruption.

According to ABS-CBN head of Integrated Public Service and Operation Sagip director Jun Dungo, his team will continue to serve the communities as they recover, with the help of ALKFI’s donors here and abroad, and partners such as ABS-CBN News and Public Service, local government units, municipal social welfare development offices and the Philippine National Police.

“The kind of public service that ABS-CBN hopes to provide to our Kapamilyas goes beyond rescue and relief. We want to help transform and nurture lives; and, serve with love and humility. We hope to be able to achieve this in Albay, which has been hit by the volcanic activities of Mayon. And, together with our donors’ unwavering support, we can do all of these,” Jun said.

In Marawi, Operation Sagip has transitioned from relief operations during the height of the war to rehabilitation efforts that aim to help the communities rebuild the city. Jun, with ABS-CBN chief operating officer of Broadcast Cory Vidanes, ABS-CBN Lingkod Kapamilya, Inc. managing director Susan Afan and ALKFI chief financial officer Noemi Samson, signed a partnership with Liwanag ng Kapayapaan Foundation, Inc. (LKFI), headed by Kapamilya actor Robin Padilla, to build homes for affected families. This after serving a total of 24,041 families through distribution of relief packs and assisting soldiers with provision of 4,000 hygiene kits.

ABS-CBN Lingkod Kapamilya Foundation, Inc.’s Operation Sagip continues to provide relief for evacuees in Albay

Operation Sagip is entrusting 25 percent of the total cash donations received from the Tulong Na, Tayo Na, Para sa Marawi campaign to the Tindig Marawi campaign of ALKFI for the construction of permanent housing for displaced residents. With the help of volunteers, including Kapamilya artists during the telethon held last November 2017 on ABS-CBN’s top-rating variety show ASAP, Operation Sagip was able to raise about P12M for Marawi.

Operation Sagip is the emergency humanitarian assistance program of ABS-CBN Lingkod Kapamilya Foundation, Inc. It provides food and non-food relief to affected communities of disasters, as well as engage in rehabilitation and disaster risk reduction projects.
