MANILA, Philippines — Miss Philippines Katarina Sonja Rodriguez continues to perform well at the ongoing international beauty pageant Miss Intercontinental in Hurghada, Egypt.

The Philippines’ bet has landed at the top spots of some preliminary contests in the pageant, and this could contribute to her finally securing a place in the finals to be held on January 24.

Miss Intercontinental, in its official website, has announced that Katarina has placed third in its Miss Sunrise Resorts 2017 poll. Miss Philippines got 2,213 votes, following Indonesia’s Alicia Beverly Weley, who is at second place with 3,635 votes, and Korea’s Lee Su Jin, who is at the first place with 3,638.

As the poll winner, Miss Korea automatically qualifies in the pageant’s top 6.

Only last weekend, Katarina reported that she entered the top 5 of the dance-off competition, where she wore a red fringe dress by Filipino designer Rhett Eala.

Rodriguez also got rave reviews for posting her white, laser-cut Filipiniana national costume by Filipino designer Francis Libiran.

In another Instagram post, Katarina shared that besides her, the representatives from USA and Japan also have Filipina blood. “Good morning Philippines! I got a fun fact for you all: both Miss USA & Miss Japan are half Filipina!!” the post’s caption read.

Katarina, an “Asia’s Next Top Model” finalist, will be competing against 64 other contenders for the Miss Intercontinental crown. If she prevails, she will become the first Filipina to win in the pageant.

The internationally-recognized Miss Intercontinental 2017 marks the pageant’s 46th anniversary. The contest began in 1971 as a concurrent tourism event in Aruba. It seeks to recognize women of power, grace, commitment, intelligence, style and substance.

According to the pageant, its titleholders have gone on to pursue high-profile careers in business, government, finance, film, and fashion.
