Is Ellen Adarna pregnant with John Lloyd Cruz's baby? The STAR/File photo

MANILA, Philippines (UPDATED)— To shed light on reports about actress Ellen Adarna carrying the child of fellow “Home Sweetie Home” star John Lloyd Cruz, Ellen’s manager has spoken to explain the actress’ side.

Pia Campos, Ellen’s manager, told ABS-CBN Entertainment correspondent Mario Dumaual that the actress is “happy and well.”

“At the moment, I can assure you that Ellen is well and happy. And if there are rumors to be admitted or dispelled, it’s her story to tell when she is ready to do so,” Pia further stated.

Ellen and John Lloyd flew out of the country because they allegedly violated their endorsement contracts – John Lloyd for allegedly breaking his wholesome image for viral videos showing him in drunken behavior, and Ellen for being allegedly pregnant, which breaks her covenant with her endorsements that allegedly prohibit her from getting pregnant while the contracts are still in effect.

Philstar.com asked a lawyer if not allowing a person to get pregnant is legal, and the legal counsel, who requested to remain private, said: “There could be a possible violation against the Magna Carta for Women.”

According to the legal counsel, if the woman’s nature of work, or endorsements in Ellen’s case, asks her to preserve her body and image, then her employers can “stipulate for a limited time” that she avoids pregnancy while the project is still ongoing.

As a general rule, the lawyer said, employers cannot stipulate to contractually hire or fire a woman based on pregnancy.
