Allen, Angelie Nicole Sanoy winners in Poland filmfest
MANILA, Philippines — Allen Dizon (photo) and Angelie Nicole Sanoy won the Specjalma Nagroda Jury Best Actor and Best Actress (Special Jury Award) for Ralston Jover’s Bomba (The Bomb) in the International Competition Section of the 33rd Warsaw Film Festival (WFF) in Poland Saturday night, Oct. 21.
The duo bested actors in 14 other films from Germany, Sweden, Poland, France, Slovenia, Croatia, Iran, Tunisia, Greece, Romania, China, Georgia, Estonia and Russian Federation.
Allen plays Pipo, a deaf mute who struggles with the urban grind of daily existence, while Sanoy is Cyril, the teenage lover of Pipo. Sanoy failed to attend the film festival.
Allen thanked the jury, director Ralston, producer Dennis Evangelista (his manager) and Kate Brios, and dedicated his victory to his children Nella, Felixia, Lucas and baby Allene, adding, “Para sa mga Pinoy, Mabuhay! Cheers!”
The International Competition’s board of jury was composed of Claudia Landsberger, a Dutch international film festivals programmer and member of the European Film Academy; critically-acclaimed and multi-awarded Israeli director Eran Riklis, award-winning Polish director Jan Hryniak, film producer and distributor Dennis Ivanov of Ukraine, and Croatian-Swedish director, scriptwriter, producer and actor Ivica Zubac.
