MANILA, Philippines - For the first time as The Triplet, former That’s Entertainment mainstays Sheryl Cruz, Manilyn Reynes and Tina Paner will treat their fans to a trip down memory lane with their well-loved songs in the ‘80s via The Triplet Concert on Sept. 9, 8 p.m. at the Music Museum.

“This is our first-ever concert together that’s why it’s very special,” said Sheryl who popularized the songs Mr. Dreamboy, Ikaw ang True Love Ko, Sabi Ko Na Nga Ba, Sagot ng Puso, Walang Ganyanan and Ako’y Iyong-Iyo. Manilyn’s hits, on the other hand, are Sayang na Sayang, Ikaw Pa Rin, Feel na Feel, Mr. Disco, Ingat Ka, Mahal Kita, Nandito Pa Rin and Kulang Pa Ba; while Tina is known for Tamis ng Unang Halik, Sana, Maayong Pasko and Umiibig Ka Pala sa Akin.

“It’s an honor to be having a concert with Manilyn and Tina after over two decades. Whatever we did in the past, it was only a show for That’s Entertainment or for GMA Supershow. Aside from that, solo career na yung aming concentration at that time,” shared Sheryl.

The singing trio first reunited through the Kapuso series Meant To Be, which concluded last June.

“During Meant To Be, we were able to talk, kami nila Tina and Mane that it would be nice for our fans na kasing-edad namin or much older than us to give them the chance to see us perform together in a concert as The Triplet (minus the letter ‘s’, because we wanted to stay true to the title Ivory Records gave us when they released our album).”

Regal babies Sheryl, Tina and Manilyn were three of the hottest teen stars of the ‘80s. They eventually led separate lives and careers. Sheryl and Tina went on showbiz hiatus for some time, got married and then separated from their husbands. Both have 16-year-old daughters.

Manilyn, on the other hand, stayed in the showbiz loop. She is happily married to Aljon Jimenez with whom she has three sons.

Sheryl, Tina and Manilyn are now in their 40s.

“I feel blessed because after so many years that we have been apart from one another and become matured with time and age, we remain friends and (now) we have (another) chance to work together after Meant To Be,” said Sheryl.

“It’s a joy working with Manilyn and Tina. Actually, sobrang madadaldal kami when we are together. We always talk about the things we used to do when we were teenagers. We were able to spend more time together so mas naging stronger yung bond namin,” she added.

Although some people continue to pit the three of them against each other, Sheryl assured that nothing has changed in their friendship after all these years.

“For us, walang ganun. I’m happy because each of us has attained our own progress and achievements with our career. And we’re not kids anymore to be immature na kailangan mas star si ganito o ganyan. Mas alam naman namin na bawat isa sa amin naghirap to get to where we are now.”

What will fans look forward to in their concert?

Concert director Frank Mamaril said, “Of course, their hits will always be included in the line-up. Another is, maybe it is good to note that perhaps there would be a chance for their former love teams — Romnick Sarmenta for Sheryl, Cris Villanueva for Tina and Keempee de Leon or Janno Gibbs for Manilyn Reynes — to be there. And, what if there’s a tribute to someone special to them? Those are the highlights that they have to look forward to.”

He added, “I wanted the show to go back to the ‘80s and ‘90s; to how they were before. Parang hindi sila tumatanda so I want to bring that again in this concert. It would be filled with their songs but, of course, with new songs na aabangan.”

Sheryl said, “It’s nice that what we used to do before in That’s Entertainment like dancing and singing, we will do it also on our concert. But there’s a challenge now because we’ve added new sounds that we’re going to perform, plus a lot of medleys that are very danceable. There will be duets na hindi niyo inaakalang gagawin namin and lots of interaction with the audience. The songs that we’ll be singing I’m sure you are very familiar with.”

Produced by Striking Star Productions, The Triplet Concert also includes guests Ivan Dorschner, Jak Roberto, Addy Raj and Ken Chan.
