Kendrick Lamar leads MTV VMA nominees

Kendrick has a whopping eight nominations at the annual video music awards

From the way I see it, only a new album by the likes of Taylor Swift can change the situation. That is keep DAMN by Kendrick Lamar from being the biggest selling album of the year.  Strong, unfiltered, an insightful meditation on faith and how it manages to thrive in this world, the collection shows Lamar at his poetic best. You really have to hand it to this guy. His rise from teen-aged gangsta rapper to one of the world’s most important hip-hop poets is most remarkable. And he is only 30 years old with a whole life ahead of him.

And when you have an album as widely appealing like DAMN with hard-hitting hit singles like Humble, DNA, Loyalty and I wish they would release Duckworth as a single, the awards follow. So now we have Lamar leading the Moonman race at the 2017 MTV Video Music Awards with a whopping eight nominations. These are all for the video of his single Humble and the nods are for Best Hip-Hop, Cinematography, Direction, Art Direction, Visual Effects, Choreography and the most coveted plum of all, Video of the Year. Kendrick himself is nominated for Artist of the Year.

The 2017 MTV Video Music Awards will be held at The Forum in Inglewood, California on Aug. 27, which means that we will probably get the telecast live early on Monday morning, Aug. 28. Hosting the show will be Katy Perry who came in second to Lamar in the nominees race with five nods for her Chained To The Rhythm and Bon Appetit.
