The return of Two Less Lonely People In The World

The tables just turned for Two Less Lonely People In The World as part of the major industry upheaval happening nowadays because of the blockbuster flick Kita Kita, starring Alessandra de Rossi and Empoy Marquez, where the song figured prominently as its theme.

Isn’t it amazing? People are singing Two Less Lonely People In The World again and loving it. And I am sure that these include those who once called the song baduy or bakya and one of those Air Supply songs they would not be caught dead listening to. Start eating crow, all of you. The tables just turned for Two Less Lonely People In The World as part of the major industry upheaval happening nowadays because of the blockbuster flick Kita Kita where the song figured prominently as its theme.

Kita Kita is a romantic comedy starring Alessandra de Rossi and Empoy Marquez and directed by Sigrid Andrea Bernardo. Shot in Sapporo, Hokkaido, Japan, it tells the story of how a blind girl falls in love with the kindness and sense of humor of her neighbor. Nothing new in the basic ingredient but like the unlikely choice of Two Less Lonely People In The World, everything else about the picture turned out to be an unlikely, wonderful surprise.

Director Sigrid is new in the business and known for making edgy stuff like Ang Huling Cha Cha Ni Anita.  Alessandra, a fine actress, is famous for heavy, dramatic roles. Empoy is a comedian, often the heroes’ oddball sidekick whom fans do not usually bother with. But together they made magic in Kita Kita, a sweet, easy on the eyes, warming on the heart love story that has already grossed over P200M in the box-office as of this writing.

Two Less Lonely People In The World was composed by Howard Greenfield and Ken Hirsch and recorded by the Australian duo Air Supply. One of the biggest soft rock acts in pop music history, Air Supply was formed by Russell Hitchcock and Graham Russell in 1975 and made its name on romantic soaring love songs. One of those was Two Less Lonely People In The World which was released in 1982 in the album Now And Forever.

Alongside the deluge of movie offers for Alessandra, Empoy and Sigrid, we can also expect an increase in demand for Air Supply songs in movie soundtracks. While there are people out there who mistakenly think of Air Supply music as untrendy or kitschy, it is a fact that Pinoys adore love songs and this duo makes beautiful, enduring love songs and admit it or not, we have been listening to them for over 40 years.

So, here for anybody currently in the market for movie theme songs or mood music, is a list of the best by Air Supply: Lost In Love, All Out Of Love, Every Woman In The World, The One That You Love, Here I Am (Just When I Thought I Was Over You), Even The Nights Are Better, Making Love Out Of Nothing At All, The Power Of Love, Lonely Is The Night, Now And Forever and Keeping The Love Alive. All of these songs are hits.

It is also great to find out that, thanks to Kita Kita, KZ Tandingan’s version of Two Less Lonely People In The World is a huge hit.  How I loved seeing that title by a local artist on Spotify’s Philippine Top 50 Chart.  It is in No. 11 and with just a little more push, it will be in the Top 10 alongside Justin Bieber, Charlie Puth, Liam Payne and others.

Anyway, here are the Top 20 tunes on Spotify’s local chart: Despacito by Luis Fonsi and Daddy Yankee featuring Justin Bieber; I’m The One by DJ Khaled and Justin Bieber feat. Quavo, Chance the Rapper and Lil Wayne; Strip That Down by Liam Payne feat. Quavo; Mama by Jonas Blue feat.
