Swift unravelling of truth

LIFE'S ESSENCE - The Freeman

In whatever contest and from whose perspective we would take in, it is always awkward when a wrong winner is announced whether advertently or otherwise. This is so as almost always it caps the entire event and the waiting would be over. I have quite a number of experiences in schools and even in different communities when contests are part of any activity and when it's time to the declaration of the winners, it's a total mess.

And there were occasions that rectifying such error has no longer been explored because it is generally anticlimactic or it would just disrupt the entire program. And oftentimes since it's just between the few members of the committee or to a select people who have the knowledge of the entire computation and announcement process, they would end up keeping it a secret without rectifying and forever be just a conundrum for them. And the contestants would no longer bother to know the real score.

Let's project the situation, in a big screen that millions who are watching. The experience of Miss Universe 2015 has brought us lesson to accept one's honest mistake and rectify right away than forever be sorry for what have been wrongfully done. It was an honest mistake that later understood and embraced by many.

Because otherwise announcing the wrong winner and have not done anything would be a psychological torment for the rest of one's life. Corollary to it, the latest 89th annual Academy Awards (Oscars) gaffe of announcing the winner for best picture has also provided us with another comparable lesson of accepting the truth.

The producer of La la Land has took the bold step of rectifying such mistake and acknowledged the rightful winner which to the delight of the casts and crew of Moonlight.

And who would ever forget what happened in 1994 during the Manila Film Festival? The announced best actress and actor were not really the winners. And the event ended that night and only the following day that one courageous actress-presenter who revealed the truth behind it. And only after an immediate investigation that recognition was given to the rightful winners.

Everything is so fluid. And in a live event, anything can happen so fast and we don't realize that we are already being swayed by the turn of events. And so it would take a drastic move to uncover the truth. Let's take the initial normal reaction but later everything would settle down. In the end, one's credibility is strengthened. The truth would set us free. And give us peace of mind. - Ligaya Visaya Rabago
