Body Talk with Vin Abrenica

The star of Moonlight Over Baler begs off from making any comment about his Kuya Aljur’s predicament. ‘We don’t talk much these days,’ says Vin (shown below with Ajur). ‘I haven’t asked him about it. He’s being bashed and I don’t want to add to the mess.’ Photos by VER PAULINO

Not his brother’s keeper

Although he and his Kuya Aljur are as close as other brothers are not, Vin Abrenica is mum about Aljur’s current situation. Aljur is living-in at his own home (bought from Kaye Dacer and newly-renovated) with his girlfriend Kylie Padilla who is three months pregnant, while Vin is staying alone in his own place. The brothers used to share not just a room but confidences; they even swapped clothes and shoes.

But these days, they don’t talk much.

“We haven’t talked about it,” admitted Vin in a one-on-one after the presscon for T-Rex Entertainment’s Moonlight Over Baler which is opening nationwide today, directed by Gil M. Portes and also starring, among others, Elizabeth Oropesa, Ellen Adarna, Daria Ramirez and Vin’s ex-girlfriend Sophie Albert. “I get updates about him only from social media. He’s being bashed and I don’t want to add to the mess. It’s a new phase in his life and I’m waiting for the right time to discuss it with him. I give him my all-out support. All he needs is call me and I run to him. About Kylie, kasundo ko siya; mabait siya.”

Vin added that Aljur has beaten him to the draw.

“Our dad used to say that if ever he had an apo, he wanted it to come from me,” added Vin. “Inunahan ako ni kuya. I’m excited to see their baby. Excited ako mag-alaga ng baby nila.”

Career-wise, though, Vin is getting ahead of Aljur. In Moonlight Over Baler, his second movie with Gil (after Hermano Puli, with Aljur in the titular role), he plays a dual role: as a soldier killed in World War II and as the soldier’s Japanese photojournalist lookalike in present times.

Vin stands 5’10.5”; weighs 148 lbs.; and wears small-size shirt, medium-size briefs and size-11 shoes.

What kind of diet do you follow?

“Occasionally, I eat a lot, as in maraming-marami. But if I’m preparing for a shoot or a pictorial, I observe what I call an ‘intermediate fasting,’ a 16-hour diet with a window of eight hours when you can eat anything you want. What’s usually for breakfast?

“Bread, as many pieces as I can, with eggs and coffee with cream or sugar. Or cereals. For lunch, mostly beef or chicken breast. I have stopped eating pork. For dinner, I eat as much as I can kasi payatin ako so I need to gain weight.”
