Happy Life premieres today on GMA

Eric Quizon helms the new GMA News TV travel show which aims to make people, especially the needy, happy.

MANILA, Philippines - Local travel shows are known for showcasing the beauty of the Philippines in its visual splendor, with the hosts mainly just being vocal about their love for nature and adventure as well as their feelings for places and people they get in touch with. Rarely we find one that’s going out to extend help or encourage others to do so.

New TV show Happy Life gets in the game embracing that particular cause. It aims not just to show the good life and its beautiful people, but primarily how to make people, especially the needy, happy.

To be directed by Eric Quizon and featuring beauty queens and models as hosts, Happy Life premieres today at 9:30 a.m. on GMA News TV.

During its press conference recently held at Gloria Maris, Greenhills, the show already hinted signs it will do what it promises for real and long, especially with Vigan pride Chavit Singson attending himself and urging everyone to do their share in the cause. His daughter, Kim Singson, is the president of White Lion Media Productions, Inc. which is behind the legwork and realization of Happy Life.

Chavit’s tone was clearly espousing the goodness of paying it forward. He said, “We’ve been helping people for a long time but we never published what we were doing. Now we will publish it to encourage others to spread the power of helping and sharing blessings. Of course, we want to help people who work hard.”

Happy Life tours around the Philippines, picking places and featuring scenic spots and various local cultures, getting donors and choosing deserving people as help recipients. For the first episode, televiewers will be introduced to 76-year-old farmer Lola Gabina from Ormoc, Leyte, who has been farming since she was 10. She will be handed with good graces, more than what she is asking for. So is a man whose talent is styling people’s hair but doesn’t have his own barbershop.

Happy Life’s effort to help will be done through livelihood projects and shelter building, among others.

Eric noted, “The purpose of the show is to encourage others and we can start it with our friends and families. So I encouraged my siblings and friends that’s why sa isang episode kasama ang aking mga kapatid. I also encouraged Alice (Dixson) na makasama rin dito. And I know she also wants this. In short, yung gustong tumulong hahanapan namin ng tutulungan.”

It was a surprise that Alice was around during the presscon even if she’s part of the show. She chose to share some blessings instead.

Eric pointed out that beauty queen-models Bea Santiago, MJ Lastimosa, Jamie Herrell, Giulia Zahar, Sophie Rankin and Anthea Murfet are all semi-regulars, with the intention of rotating them and opening doors for others to host come the succeeding episodes. One thing obvious though is that, the job is given to someone beautiful inside out.

Eric, working for the show’s first 12 episodes, explained, “Tinulungan namin ang isang lady farmer from Ormoc. May research team kami tapos hinihingi rin namin ang tulong ng mga local para talagang i-check kung karapat-dapat talagang bigyan ng tulong ‘yung bibigyan namin.”

Even the show’s catchy theme song has so much promise, with the track performed by Introvoyz and made possible by a production team that involves Epy Quizon, Gio Alvarez and Ira Cruz.

That White Lion, an independent production company that specializes in making movies, TV shows, commercials, audio-visual presentations and viral videos, is bent on going places to ensure that Happy Life objectives are met. Viewers and generous people believing in the beauty of helping others will find the show a great watch to spend with on Sunday mornings.
