Slices of Jean

My friends and I dropped by Jean’s Manila, the restaurant formally inaugurated only last month even if it has been attracting clients for more than a year. Located at the corner of Roces Ave. and Mother Ignacia St., Quezon City (near a playground where kids play at the risk of being run over by speeding cars while their parents are looking the other way), the cozy restaurant accommodates 40 hungry people at most at the ground floor, with a bigger space at the second floor for the happy hour.

We wanted to sample some of the items on the menu — “slices of Jean,” so to speak — and we left the place burping with satisfaction.

The two teens with us went crazy over the Pork Sisig (as “starter,” P210 per order) and Jeans Bopis (P220 per order).

The young lady found the Adobo Ala Jeans (P270 per order) so delicious, downed with Fresh Mango Shake (P120 per order), that she asked for a second serving of fragrant white rice. Another bowl of rice for take-home, topped by the leftover sauce of the adobo.

Everybody gorged on the Lechon Kawali Pinakbet (P255 per order), wiped out in a jiffy so another order was made.

Before the main courses, each chose Clam Chowder (P170 per order) as kick-off item.

“I loved the way they served the food,” said the senior in the group (who footed the bill using his Seniors Card). “Very neat. Done with loving care, obviously.”

Oh yes, the “sweet ending”: Mango-flavored Slice of Heaven (P210 a piece) which tasted, as the name promised, heavenly.

It was a Sunday and not many people were around. According to the lady chef and the young waitress, the place is usually full on weekdays, with Jean’s showbiz friends crowding the second floor with a little night music.
