Bea & Gerald uncensored

FUNFARE - Ricky Lo - The Philippine Star

Short but sweet.

That sums up the romance between Bea Alonzo and Gerald Anderson rudely interrupted by career moves that brought them away from each other.

“I was young then, immature,” admitted Gerald, now 27, who let himself be swayed by people against the relationship. “Maraming intriga.” (Gerald has just been named Squadron Lieutenant of the Philippine Coast Guard, and his dad Gerald Sr., Captain of the Philippine Coast Guard, and Gerald’s brother Ken Lieutenant of the Philippine Coast Guard.)

“It was so short that I didn’t have time to discover more about him, to know him better,” said Bea with a tone of undisguised regret. “I was also young then, carefree. I wish we could go back to those carefree years.”

They didn’t even have time for closure. But since then, they would cross paths and get wind of each other’s affairs of the heart. Gerald has been linked to other actresses (Kim Chiu, Sarah Geronimo and Maja Salvador among them) and so was Bea (Mico Palanca, John Lloyd Cruz and Zanjoe Marudo, among them).

Art seems to imitate life in their first movie together, Star Cinema’s How To Be Yours (directed by Dan Villegas) which opens nationwide on Wednesday, July 27. Gerald plays Niño who initially chooses career over love until he meets Bea’s character Anj whose choice is career over love.

Reel life takes up where real life has left off. Niño and Anj journey through the various stages of loving and living, and all the ups and downs of falling in love, something they didn’t have a chance to experience during their “short but sweet” romance.

Asked by the press if they didn’t feel awkward working together, Gerald admitted that it felt “surreal” and that he never thought this kind of team-up would come up. “Even before I entered showbiz,” added Gerald, “I had a crush on Bea. She’s a very good actress. Being paired with her is a blessing.”

Bea said that being together on the set gave her the chance to do what she had failed... to bond with Gerald. “We are okay so we were comfortable working together, no awkwardness at all. Gerald and I could talk about the past without being conscious about it.”

To probe the exes deeper, Funfare decided to make them take the “First Time/Last Time” test which reveals a lot about the respondents (read closely). Here are Bea and Gerald (whom Bea fondly calls Ge) UNCENSORED:
