Gab Valenciano to budding artists: Don’t compete, collaborate
MANILA, Philippines – Gab Valenciano believes in the power of collaboration.
The 28-year-old performer, who became popular for his “Super-selfies” posted on YouTube, thinks that every artist should help each other bring out the best in them.
“I always tell people, don’t compete, collaborate,” he said at the press conference for the MTV Music Evolution on Friday.
“There’s always someone better, there’ll always going to be someone fresher. One tends to compete, when in reality were all here to contribute and collaborate,” he added.
He also reminded budding online artists to never be disheartened by the few hits of the videos or music they posted online.
“I’ve met a lot of popular online artists and they recalled how they first started with almost no hits at all,” he related.
Gab then advised these up and coming online artists to “never stop creating. Never stop writing, never stop shooting,” which he did when he was still starting to create his online videos.
He even recalled depending on the camera of his laptop and just play with his imagination.
In the end, Gab left them with reminder: “It such a competitive world, if you have that willingness to show the world who you are without having to go with the flow and rather go against it, that’s when people admire you.”
