Meet the finalists of Philpop songwriting competition
MANILA, Philippines – The finalists for the 2016 Philpop songwriting competition have been revealed.
This year, 12 finalists made it to the prestigious tiff with a mix of first timers and seasoned composers.
"We want to encourage songwriters to churn out original Filipino sound, to remind the world that Filipinos are not just great singers and performers, but also great songwriters," said Philpop Chairman Manny V. Pangilinan during the announcement on Friday.
"Pinoy Pop deserves a spot on the world stage," he added.
The finalists for this year’s Philpop songwriting competition are:
1. Jeroel Maranan - "Sintunado," interpreted by Nyoy Volante
2. JC Jose - "Stars Are Aligned," interpreted by Acapellago and Jimmy Marquez
3. Jazz Nicolas and Wally Acolola - "Di na Muli," interpreted by the Itchyworms featuring Jazz Nicolas
4. Karl Gaurano and Daryl Reyes - "Friday Night," interpreted by Kenjhons
5. Miguel and Paolo Guico - "Tinatangi," interpreted by Cookie Chua, Bayang Barrios, and The Benjamins
6. Johann Garcia - "Binibini sa MRT," interpreted by The Juans
7. Ramiru Mataro - "Kahon," interpreted by Ramiru Mataro
8. Joan Da - "Baliw Sa Ex-boyfriend Ko," interpreted by Sugar and Spice featuring Joan Da
9. Keiko Necesario - "Nobody But You," interpreted by Monica Cuenco
10. Aikee Aplacador - "Pabili Po," interpreted by Banda ni Kleggy, and Aikee
11. Mike Villegas and Brian Cua - "Dumadagundong," interpreted by Yassi Pressman
12. Soc Villanueva - "Lahat," interpreted by Jason Dy
The winner in the competition will be named on July 23, 6 p.m. at the Kia Theater, with delayed telecast on TV5 at 10 p.m.
