Jake wins in Brazil Fest
MANILA, Philippines – Mulat (Awaken) by Maria Diane Ventura (left) was adjudged Best Narrative Feature while Jake Cuenca (right) was named Best Actor, also for Mulat, at the World Cinema Festival in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
Another film by Ventura, The Rapist (starring Cherie Gil and Marco Morales), was nominated in the Best Narrative Short category.
Mulat is a love triangle story which revolves around a mysterious woman, Sam (Loren Burgos), her husband-to-be, Vincent (Ryan Eigenmann) and lover, Cuenca. As the lover tries to outdo the fiancé, the mysterious woman develops a ‘strange mental affliction’ that will turn their world around.
Ventura and Cuenca also won the Best Director Global and Best Actor awards for Mulat at the 2014 International Film Festival Manhattan in New York City. The film was a finalist in the 2014 Metro Manila Film Festival’s New Wave Section.
Ventura and Cuenca are expected to grace the awards night to be held on May 28 at the JW Marriott Hotel in Copacabana, Rio de Janeiro.
