Explosive Earthday Jam at the MOA April 23

The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines – On April 23, the regular mall strollers of Mall of Asia (MOA) will be temporarily replaced by guitar-donning, drum-beating ambassadors for Mother Earth. It’s April and it’s Earthday Jam time. Now on its 16th year, the musical marathon celebrating international Earth Day shows no signs of slowing down. Starting at 5 p.m., join the over 100 musicians and artists in an eight-hour musical journey.

Earthday Jam will feature more than 15 big names in various musical genres. Kicking off the event is the Afro-Brazilian percussion ensemble, Brigada. This will pave the way for an exciting journey of various musical performances from top acts. Women dominate this year’s set Nina, Sitti, Lou Bonnevie, Kitchie Nadal and Barbie Almalbis.

Female-fronted bands will rock the house with Gracenote, Arci Muñoz and her band Philia with fresh from the US, Flying Ipis and the youngest participating band, Absolute Play.

The rock scene, on the other hand, will bring back metal kings Slapshock, Kjwan and The Chongkeys. Pop rock bands 6cyclemind and Mayonnaise join the roster with Abra.

“This is sort of a reunion for us at the Mall of Asia. We were here in the year 2011 and we had so much fun. The audience is more diverse and so we find it more challenging to bring across the message of environmental care and preservation,” says Lou, founder of Earthday Jam and president of Earthday Jam Foundation. “We want our efforts to reach an even wider audience… promoting environmental awareness down to the people who know nothing about global warming and environmental issues.”

Earthday Jam is a special project of Earthday Jam Foundation, Inc. in cooperation with the Department of Environment and Natural Resources and SM Mall of Asia. It is supported by Earthday Network Philippines, The National Solid Waste Commission, First Gen Corporation, Honda Cars Philippines, Tourism Promotions Board, GSIS, PAGCOR and Dickies. Media partners are ABS-CBN, The Philippine STAR, Business Mirror, 83k Design Studio,IPR PLUS, MOR, Radio Republic, Manila Concerts, Philippine Concerts, Rakista and MYX.

Earthday Jam’s side activities include a whole-day exhibit around the performance area at SM ByThe Bay; an Firefly Brigade’s afternoon bike ride, which is open to the public with the CCP grounds as starting point and commencing at the JAM in MOA, and Youth painting activity by the sea wall.

Admission is free. For details, visit Earthday Jam Foundation FB page or call 897-6991.
