Tenor Nolyn Cabahug passes away

MANILA, Philippines - The country’s leading tenor, Nolyn Cabahug, passed away Tuesday night due to renal failure. He was 59.

Cabahug was diagnosed with end-stage renal failure in 2009. Days before his death, he was rushed to the intensive care unit of the National Kidney and Transplant Institute.

Born in Jaro, Iloilo City on March 19, 1956, Cabahug bagged awards from various international competitions as a tenor of the University of the Philippines Concert Chorus.

Among his memorable roles are that of Crisostomo Ibarra in Felipe Padilla de Leon’s restaging of “Noli me Tangere” in 1987 and Alfredo Belmonte in Rolando Tinio’s Filipino adaptation of “La Traviata” in 1990.
