It’s Showtime pa more with the Funny Ones

Bot Glorioso - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - Funny One grand winner Ryan Rems Sarita said he has nothing to do with the negative comments posted on social media against ABS-CBN’s rival network. His clarification came right after learning that a fake social media account under his name was discrediting a hit segment of a Kapuso show.

“I didn’t post anything unpleasant online,” said Ryan. “Sobrang tamad ko mag-Twitter even my FB (Facebook account) is always offline because when I tried going online one time on FB for five minutes, several messages popped instantly so I quickly turned it off because I may take a lot of their time at ayokong masira ko ang oras nila.”

But Ryan certainly can admit that he will bring nothing but laughter to the audience now that he is working full-time with the Kapamilya network. It was last Monday when he debuted as a regular in It’s Showtime where he will share more of his punchlines delivered in a deadpan manner through his own segment. Soon, he will star in a new sitcom titled Funny Cafe with Bayani Agbayani and the other Funny One finalists, who were present during the presscon held Wednesday afternoon where they were formally introduced to select members of the press. They are the Crazy Duo of Cebu, No Direction of Davao, Gibis Alejandrino of Bacolod and Nonong Ballinan. They were joined by Dulaang UP’s Iskobi Duo and TJ Valderrama.

“I have a six-month contract with Star Magic (so are the grand finalists) and whatever it is that is given to me, I will gladly accept,” shared Ryan, who is now also known as the Rakistang Komikero. It is the title coined for him when the audience took notice of his black jacket and denim pants get-up matched with dark sunglasses while delivering his funny one-liners that were often punctuated with his catchphrase, “Olrayt, rock and roll to the world,” since his Day One in The Funny One contest.

Asked what role he would like to play once given a movie project, he said that a supporting role perfectly suits him because “I feel that I can make the lead actor more famous.”

His newfound fame, Ryan revealed, is not totally sinking in yet. Nothing has changed much, he insisted. He still uses his old celfone and just like before, he is not fond of wearing a wristwatch.

Ryan Rems will tickle more funny bones now that he is working full-time with the Kapamilya network

“Pag bumibili ako ng ulam, nagdududa pa rin ako kung kilala ba ako tapos dinumog ako ng tao, kaya ngayon medyo nagsi-sink in pa lang kaya ngayon di na ko pwedeng bumili ng ulam sa tabi-tabi o mamalengke,” he quipped, adding, “kasi pwede akong masaksak kasi may tinatawag na trophy hunters pag nakapatay ng sikat, sikat din sila.” Whether it is one of his punchlines or not, Ryan was serious when he said that part of his P1M prize is intended for the schooling of his nieces and nephews.

In fact, he only treated himself to three bottles of 500 ml.-sized beer when he was declared grand winner in the It’s Showtime segment contest. “Pangako ko ‘yun sa mga pamangkin ko na papaaralin ko sila… may pagka-selfless ako at pang-good time na yung iba (laughs). Okey na ko ‘dun sa ganun na napasaya ko ang sarili ko sa beer.”

For those not in the know, Ryan was a former online English instructor and call center agent. “I originally applied as a writer here (ABS) but I was told there was no vacancy. Instead, they suggested that I audition for Funny One when they learned that I do stand-up comedy. At eto na ko ngayon.”

He was able to hone his comedic talent when he joined Comedy Cartel in 2008 then he transferred to Comedy Manila where he is a member until this day with Funny One’s second runner-up winner Nonong Ballinan as co-member.

“Para sa kin, walang inspirasyon sa paggawa ng jokes dapat lang kaya mong maging spontaneous at tama ang timing,” said the 36-year-old communication arts graduate of Centro Escolar University on his comedic style.
