Barbie’s 18th-birthday wish: No party

FUNFARE - Ricky Lo - The Philippine Star

Kapuso star Barbie Forteza (the only one in her batch who has won a Best Supporting Actress award for Mariquina in 2014 Cinemalaya) is turning 18 today and guess what her wish is — “Puede ba wala nang party?”

Instead, because children are dear to her, Barbie has adopted a room at the Philippine Children’s Medical Center (PCMC) in Diliman, Quezon City. She has been helping PCMC in the past four years and plans to continue sharing her blessings with the kids in the hospital.

The “Adopt-A-Room” program of PCMC enables or entitles a person or a group to choose and adopt a private room which they want to renovate and convert into a special private room. Once renovated and occupied, proceeds from the room will go to “charity rooms.”

Other private institutions and brand giants have already adopted rooms from PCMC, but Barbie is the first-ever celebrity to participate in this worthy cause.

The renovation for Barbie’s adopted room is currently on-going with Barbie actively participating in the process with the help of GMA Artist Center and Architects Jose Ricky Martinez and Richie Ongteco.

Barbie’s partners in this endeavor include her generous sponsors BNY, Unisilver Time, Posh Nails, BS Mobile, Fruitas, Belladona Bags, Megawide, Happy Haus Donuts, Pizza Pedricos, Cris-Carl Stuffed Toys, Megasoft Diapers, Muebles De Cristina Furniture, Fernando’s Bakeshop, Chocovron, Ritz Biscuits, Jao Ming Glutathione, Rotary Club of Makati and Flawless.

Meanwhile, to mark her debut, Funfare asked Barbie to play the “If I Were” game. (Barbie is in the cast of The Half Sisters and is part of the new GMA show Sunday PINASaya which premieres next Sunday, Aug. 9.)

• If I were an animal…I’d be a lioness because I admire her independence and how she bravely hunts on her own for her family.

• If I were a song, I would be…anything sweet or country for its chill music and hugot lyrics.

• If I were a place, I would be…a coffee shop because it’s a cool place to hang out in. It’s also where you can find my favorite drink, coffee!!!

• If I were a tree, I would be…Narra because it’s undeniably strong, useful and for its long lifespan. (Though, I don’t want to get that old, hahahaha!)

• If I were a flower, I would be…a red tulip. Amazing color, beauty and scent.

• If I were a food, I would be…Mac n’ Cheese coz it’s easy to cook yet awesomely good.

• If I were a movie, I would be…mystery/crime. Always my favorite genre. The thrill and wits of it.

• If I were a car, I would be…a pick-up truck. Very convenient here in our country for its height, size and, most of all, badass lookin’.

• If I were a part of the house, I would be…the kitchen. No need to explain. (Laughs!)

• If I were a hero, I would be…Superhero? Yes, Ironman, he’s just so clever and awesome.

• If I were a cartoon character, I would be…Courage, the Cowardly Dog, because he always ends up saving the old couple and getting his fears conquered.

• If I were a book, I would be…an audio book because I am so talkative. Hahahaha!!!

• If I were a Hollywood actress, I would be…Meryl Streep. Everyone wants to be her.

• If I were a subject, I would be…Science, maybe? Because I always discover something new about myself.

If I were a president…I would be Obama because he’s humorous, considerate and clever in his own way.

• If I were a perfume, I would be…anything concentrated for its long-lasting fragrance.

• If I were a musical instrument, I would be…an acoustic guitar. Difficult to play at first but once learned, the best company.

 • If I were a drink, I would be…water. At the end of the day, everyone would always need to drink water.

• If I were a country, I would be…The Philippines. I think it is where you can meet the most resilient people in the world.

• If I were a fictional character, I would be...Linda Blair. She’s the original horror queen. Everyone’s afraid of her but she’s never forgotten.

 • If I were a music icon, I would be...Taylor Swift. Again, no need to explain. She’s my forever idol!

 • If I were a luxury brand, I would be...Chanel, best luxury brand for me. (I still don’t own one, though.)

 • If I were a sport, I would be...basketball. The excitement never stops. Every minute counts!

• If I were a dessert, I would be...Ice Cream. Again, everyone loves it. We’d have it any day. My comfort food any day of the week.

• If I were a season, I would be...Fall. Just the right weather.

‘Hercules’ visits Bohol

As you must have heard, yes, Hollywood actor Kellan Lutz was in Bohol recently.

He’s known for playing Emmett Cullen in The Twilight Saga; as Poseidon in the 2011 film Immortals; as Hercules in the 2014 film The Legend of Hercules and as ex-US Marine John Smilee in the action-thriller The Expendables 3.

He was in Panglao town to attend the wedding of his friend Jeremiah who married Miss Bohol International 2003 Maya Calope Galvan in a beach wedding held at the Panglao Island Nature Resort.

Lutz was actually part of the wedding entourage.

During the reception, Lutz joined the CenterStage Band performing on stage. “The CenterStage band did not expect that the handsome, macho and well-physique guy would be dancing hard on the sand dunes and jamming with us,” said CenterStage drum manager Ariel Fullido.

Lutz was mobbed by fans.

“He was so mabait at sobrang guapo,” said Ryan Sines who met Lutz at PINR. “He was palabiro when I approached him to have a photo ops.”

Lutz visited some tourist attractions in Bohol. Lutz said he loves the beauty of Bohol and he plans to visit again someday with friends.       — Reported by Leo Udtohan
