Netizens: Did Jason Dy win because of Sarah G's fanbase?

Alixandra Caole Vila - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - Last night, Sarah Geronimo's apprentice, Jason Dy was hailed as the big winner of The Voice Season Two.

During the show's first finale night held on Saturday, Jason performed “Wrecking Ball" with Charice Pempengco and sang his own rendition of Chris Brown's “With You” for his solo act. For the Sunday live shows, Jason sang "Angels Brought Me Here" and "If I Ain't Got You" with his coach Sarah.

It was Alisah Bonaobra of Team Apl who went head to head with the "harana king."  In the end, Jason was hailed as the winner with 52.94% of the total votes.

Jason is undoubtedly talented. Before joining the competition, he was a bar singer in Singapore and has worked as a demo singer and as a “haranista,” or a singer who offers serenading services.  As we may recall, he had three chairs turn during his blind auditions when he sang Sam Smith's  “Stay With Me."

Regardless, many Netizens speculated that the 24-year-old singer's success was more likely because of her coach's fans.

Proving the power of the fanbase, #popster became a trending topic on the finale night.

On the other hand, some netizens expressed their disappointment that Kokoi, who also belongs to Team Sarah, did not make it to the finals.

According to the fans' tweets, the victory of Jason is their gift for Sarah as she celebrates her 12 years in showbiz.
