Jasmine on issue with Daniel: It's over and done already

Chuck Smith - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - Jasmine Curtis-Smith admitted that her involvement in Daniel Padilla’s audio scandal last September is the biggest issue she has experience in her four years in show business.

But the 20-year-old actress said she has already moved on from the issue, and wishes other people--bashers and the entertainment media included--to move on from it as well.

In the audio scandal, Daniel is heard expressing her excitement over receiving a text message from someone who is assumed to be Jasmine.

Fans reacted negatively over the issue, as Daniel is linked--both on and off screen--to ABS-CBN teen actress Kathryn Bernardo.

“You should be neutral and objective when it comes to approaching the people because how it will be interpreted or seen by the others, hindi mo na control yun. So, control na lang din talaga with your actions and just respect,” Jasmine said when asked about the lessons she learned from the issue during the press conference of the movie “Bonifacio: Ang Unang Pangulo” on Tuesday.

Jasmine said her friendship with the ABS-CBN teen star was somehow affected by the issue, but she said they are on good terms. “Okay na. I'm honest as I can be. It's over and done already,” she said.

In fact, Jasmine said she’s willing and ready to work with Daniel again.

The two are part of “Bonifacio,” which stars Robin Padilla. The movie is one of the entries in the 2014 Metro Manila Film Festival.

“If the right time comes, yeah, bakit naman hindi? Trabaho lang naman diba and maliit ang industriya natin para hindi maging okay makipagtrabaho sa kanya,” she said.

Jasmine received a fair share of bashing from netizens regarding the issue. The young actress is trying not to take it personally.

“I just try to be as objective as much as possible,” she explained. “Of course I have to consider the fact that the people that they idolize, it's a whole different level na. They've been supporting this team for how many years, so the passion is really intense.”

She added: “You can't blame them for their hurt. All I can do is step back, let it die down on its own and focus on my personal life and work. Hindi naman kasi dapat yan hahadlang sa trabaho ko, kung paano ako makisama sa mga tao sa paligid ko.”

“It's how you react or respond to things that will define you... kung kaya mo ba talaga ang showbiz na ito or magpapatalo ka talaga. Parte ito ng trabaho namin.”
Jasmine is excited to be part of this year’s Metro Manila Film Festival. It’s her first time to join the annual movie fest.

“It's always good to have a standout film when it comes to film festivals kasi ang mga Pinoy mas nae-enjoy ang mga light films, comedy, romcom. And it's always nice to have an entry na medyo seryoso,” she said.

“Bonifacio: Ang Unang Pangulo” opens in theaters on December 25.
