How can Kris be preggy when she’s ‘chaste’?

FUNFARE - Ricky Lo - The Philippine Star

As I’ve been saying, Queen of All Media Kris Aquino is a veritable newsmaker. All she does is sneeze and, voila(!), she hits the headlines.

That’s why when she suffered from dehydration last Tuesday afternoon while shooting for her Kris TV show in Intramuros, complaining that she was dizzy, people jumped to the conclusion that…well, could she be in that interesting stage?...coming as the news did right after Kris’ short-lived “special friendship” with Quezon City Mayor Herbert Bautista had just ended.

Blame the attending nurse at the Makati Med where Kris was rushed to when she began having dizzy spells late afternoon that day. With great reluctance, the nurse sheepishly (I guess) asked Kris if she didn’t mind if she (the nurse) would ask her an important question. Kris didn’t mind. “Are you pregnant?” the nurse asked Kris who blurted out, “No, I’m not pregnant!”

The truth was that her electrolytes dropped due to the oppressive summer heat and, according to the diagnosis, her red blood cell count and hemoglobin count went alarmingly low. Herbert, now only Kris’ “best friend,” promptly sent her a box of Gatorade to rehydrate her.

How could Kris be pregnant when, as she said in her Instagram account, “Hindi po ako puwedeng mabuntis! Wala po akong ginagawa para mabuntis ako. Can we just clarify that?”

Well, as clarification, Kris did tell the whole world several weeks ago that she had “no sex life” that’s why she was blessed. In fact, as she also told Funfare in an interview (was it two years ago?), she had been happily celibate (that was after she broke up with husband, now her “ex” James Yap).

In a text reply to Funfare’s inquiry yesterday, Kris said, “You even reminded me before that the word you used was ‘chaste’.” Adding that, beyond that, she’d rather keep mum (but for how long?).

There. Kris claimed to be “chaste” and that should put any pregnant rumor to rest.

Meanwhile, stand by for Kris’ “important announcement” once the MERS-COV (Middle East Respiratory Syndrome-Corona Virus) danger is over.

Megan in US for charity

2013 Miss World Megan Young will again be back in the US for several charitable events. This visit will be weeks before she graces the 116th Philippine Independence Day Parade in New York on June 1 with an expected turnout of more than 100,000 Fil-Ams.

Kamuning Bakery’s pandesal cited

Food magazine of ABS-CBN Publishing cited the 75-year-old Kamuning Bakery and its famous pugon-baked pandesal among its “8 Most Loved Pinoy Breads.” GMA 7’s Gandang Ricky Reyes TV show recently also featured Kamuning Bakery as a favorite of celebrities, artists, intellectuals, past presidents and food lovers since 1939. Ricky Reyes was shown on TV baking old-style Filipino pastries and cakes. In December 2013, international model and TV host Jason Godfrey featured Kamuning Bakery’s circa 1939 pugon or wood-fire brick oven for AXN channel and he pugon-baked pandesal breads for TV.

The late top food critic Dr. Doreen Fernandez wrote in her book Palayok: “The Kamuning Bakery also bakes traditional biscuits — camachile; otap; biscocho Iloilo, which we Ilonggos call biscocho de caña; Aglipay; favorita; sultan; ogoy-ogoy; pulseras; galletas. And colored meringue, taisan, ensaimada. But it is the pan de suelo (pandesal na putok) that wins the customers and earns the bread (pardon the pun) — the undisputed bestsellerÂ…among customers including children, mothers with babies in arms, housewives in slippers, career girls in high-heels, distinguished old men in chauffer-driven cars, young boys on errands, car-driving women, once former President Cory Aquino buying herself, not a driver or a maid.”

Even since writer, realty entrepreneur and college teacher and STAR columnist Wilson Lee Flores (photo) bought Kamuning Bakery in December 2013, still retaining the original owners of the Bonifacio-Javier family as business partners to maintain the old tastes and traditions, this iconic pugon bakery at Judge Jimenez Street cor. K-1st Street in Quezon City (telephones 929-2216 and 794-5045) is being revived. Kamuning Bakery has added a café area for breakfast and the best brewed coffee from organic fair-trade farms in Sagada of Mountain Province, also Batangas and Cavite. New products include Laguna’s finest kesong puti, fresh milk, chocolate milk and yoghurt.

As Quezon City’s first bakery, Kamuning Bakery is also featured in the Quezon City Museum project of Vice-Mayor Joy Belmonte which will be inaugurated this year during the city’s 75th anniversary celebrations.
