Rafael: I can be nobody else but me

Because he feels suffocated by the big city, Norway-born Rafael Rosell tries to commune with nature every chance he gets. Or flow with the waves surfing.

“I dread being trapped in the city for a long time,” he confessed. But he really couldn’t help it because his job is mostly in the city, such as his latest GMA soap The Borrowed Wife in which he plays the husband of Camille Prats as the lookalike of a woman who died in an accident. Their co-stars are TJ Trinidad (as boyfriend of the dead woman) and Pauleen Luna (who falls in love with Rafael).

During a brief phone chat with Funfare, Rafael said that he was in La Union surfing after gracing an event.

“I enjoy what free time I have these days,” he said, especially now that he has no love life after breaking up with his last girlfriend three years ago.

“I love being single. I focus on my work and spend more time with my family.”

Rafael bared more of himself in this corner’s “Complete the Sentence” game.

I hate people…No, I don’t hate people.

I avoid people…who gossip and judge for pleasure and leisure.

My greatest pleasure in life is…the feeling of freedom that surfing brings and the adventures that I experience during a surfing trip with loved ones.

My worst moment is…being trapped in the city for a long time. I feel that I’m starting to drown in the pollution and illusions the city seems to successfully inflict in our minds.

My biggest fear is…to be trapped in the system we call democracy. Hahahaha! Joke! Seriously, my biggest fear is losing someone I love.

I pray for…the people’s minds, that one day we will all wake up and fix what doesn’t work for the majority.

The most important person in my life is...my mother.

If I were to be reincarnated as an animal, I would be...a dog owned by a surfer, or a cat living in a coffee shop in Amsterdam.

My most traumatic experience was…a bad wipeout on a big wave while surfing. I was underwater for so long that I thought my life was over.

I deal with gossip by…not listening to it nor getting involved in the mix.

The things I can’t do without are…meditation and surfing.

The girl that turns me on is…someone who has a good balance between beauty and brains. Intelligence to me is sexy.

The girl that turns me off is…rare. I find beauty in most people.

My philosophy in life is…to love life in ALL ways.  

I lose my temper when…I see the government fooling the people. And when they decide to stay fooled even when they know the truth. 

When I am alone in my room I fantasize about…alternative medicine becoming available for everyone who needs it…for the people to become happy…and for the world to live as one. LOL! 

If I were somebody else I would be…nobody else but me.

I’m happiest when…I can be myself.

I’m saddest when…I don’t get to surf. 

My ultimate goal is…to be the best version of me.

What I like about myself is…my stubbornness to not give up on goals I have set. 

What I don’t like about myself is…I trust too easily.
